Hi all..
This is only based on the word of one nurse, but it appears Rhys could come home sooner than we thought.. She suggested I speak to a particular consultant on Monday and see what she thinks. If she agrees, it only takes days (not weeks) to arrange..
I asked this morning what she thought they would do re: the twice weekly bloods tests and how many he would have to have before they'd consider letting him home and she said that he could actually go home any time and we'd just take him back on for tests twice a week (no biggie - hospital is ten minutes door-to-door from our house). She said regardless of when it is, he will come home on quite a few medications so we're not waiting for anything on that score. The big thing is the feeding method.. they can send him home tube fed with a long-term line in (it's rare that they do it, but then a lot of things with Rhys are rare!)
He's currently tube fed on EBM with additives - one to help him keep it down and one with extra vitamins to compensate for/help his kidney function. I asked at Notts what would happen with these if he mastered breastfeeding directly and the dietician suggested we would alternate feeding direct (obviously no additives!) and bottlefeeding EBM with extras.
I'm going to see if I can speak to a consultant today to see about either me moving back into a parent flat and being on hand all the time to try with breastfeeding whenever Rhys is awake as I never seem to catch him at the right time just by visiting 2-3 times a day, or that they try him with a bottle and see if they can get him onto that instead. If Rhys can only master one of them and I have to continue to express and then bottle feed all the time then that's what I'll do
Really had best get on with the house and ordering Rhys a crib! :eek:0 -

Just adding to the clothes discussion - does anyone find that clothes don't fit anymore?
I'm curvy and find that in trousers/shorts/skirts that if I try a size 16 on, it fits nice around my bum and hips, but there's yards of fabric standing off my waist and it looks stupid. If I get a size 14, then it sits lovely on my waist, but then the fabric is straining over my bum and hips and I get a camel toe which looks awful!
It seems that clothes are designed for straight up and down people now, and I find it really hard to find anything that fits me properly.
I want to try and loose weight from my bottom half to see if I can get more in proportion to buy clothes that fit.
I found that i no longer fitted in topshop trousers after i had Chris, there's not much hip room in their stuff lol i get all mine from next now not as cheap but hey ho...0 -
That's fab news elle.
We tried a doidy cup today and both got very wet. She loved it though - hardly ate any food as too busy drinking. Lots of practise and changes of clothes will be needed I feelIsabella Molly born 14th January 2009

That's great news elle.
I like the sound of the bunny clock too. I've ordered Charlottes bed, but it's on a 2-4 week delay, so I'm thinking the bunny clock might be a good investment to go with the new bed! Here I go again on my own....0 -
I dont know how you all manage to post so often!!!
I just feel as tho life is a constant whirlwind of feeding at the moment. Maybe getting ready and cleaning my teeth if i get time!!!
Can I just ask those of you that feed lying down during the night.....do you just fall asleep and if so are you worried about baby getting used to sleeping in the bed with you?
I just dont want Rose to become too attatched to sleeping with me but getting the hang of feeding lying down has been great....only thing is she still needs winded and if i fall asleep and dont do it she suffers.
MFD....can i ask if Benjamin got the hang of sleeping in his hammock or did you abandon efforts? Rose doesnt like sleeping in her moses basket and shes too small for her cot and i was still wondering about buying one...just wanted to know if you thought they were worth it??
Elle....I read a while back you saying that Rhys kept pulling his feeding tube out. Is it down his throat or nose? Rose kept pulling hers out her mouth but once they put it down her nose she never bothered...it also made feeding much easier for her.DS Anthony Steven 07.06.92DD Becky Emma 24.01.94DD Rose Grace Jean 12.05.090 -
Hi angela
Rhys' tube is up his nose then stuck with a plaster to his cheek, like this. Unfortunately he's sussed just how to slide his fingers under the small bit between the edge of the plaster and his nose and flicks it out - even seems to smile at the time to make it easier and give himself more space to get his fingers in!
