Thanks - could you tell us if your card was issued by your local authority, or is it a national certificate of registration issued by a central body?

I had one of these cards when i was at college dont know what it was called or from as my mum sorted it but i could try and find out. I found it a pain to be honest and ended up paying for a students bus pass.

I got thrown off of several bus's as aparently "They did'nt know what it was" and one bus driver threatened to take my picture and show it to the police. :S

If this was now i would have complained like hell but i was only 15 so was scared of the whole ordeal

Nasty bus driver, I have always stood my ground so he wouldn't have got away with it. Anyway we always travel in two's OH is the disabled one not me. So I'm lucky to have the energy and ability to stand up for him.

So do I need a pink card? How would I go about getting one of those? Is that something everyone gets or just people who have a major mobility problem, like need a wheelchair or something? Like I said I have a heart condition and walking distances is pretty challenging to me, also I can't ever learn to drive because I collapse every now and then and could cause an accident.

And if you live in Northern Ireland you can get half-price bus and train travel with a Half-Fare Smart Pass for:

• People who have been awarded the higher or lower rate mobility component of Disability Living Allowance for a period of at least 12 months.

• People who have been refused a driving licence on medical grounds.

• People who are registered as partially sighted with a Health and Social Services Trust.

• People who are known to a Health and Social Services Trust as having a learning disability.

for a bus pass covering most of wales apply to your local council(ONLY IF YOU LIVE IN WALES!).with approx £2 and a photo.
you get a red laminated pass no expiry date courtesy of the welsh assembly.
unfortunately there is no difference between these and the oap passes!

Certified proof of being in receipt of Disability Living Allowance is called Certificate of Entitlement to Disability Living Allowance. If you get DLA and don't have this, you should ask your local DWP office for one. I think the certificate's number is DLA404.

As mentioned before, depending on the level of DLA you are on (there are three grades - low, medium & high; and two separate graded components - care and mobility), you can access other things by being in receipt of it. Some include:

- free bus transport (apply at your local council). In Scotland from 1st April 2006 this will apply to buses nationally;
- blue badge for your car (from ditto);
- road tax free (for higer rate mobility DLA-ers. Apply to DVLA using your DLA404 certificate);
- the BOGOF card mentioned earlier in the post allowing someone to accompany you to certain cinemas and theatres free (https://www.ceacard.co.uk) ;
- Access to the Motability Scheme allowing you to trade off some benefit for a car to get around in.

I live in Scotland.
Im not on DLA but I am registered disabled as I have MS.

Only two weeks ago I applied and today I received the bus pass. I also applied and received a disabled parking blue badge.
Your local library will have the forms you need to apply, take along a passport size pic a utility bill and drivers license or passport or the like and your doctors name and address and your buspass for free travel all over scotland should arrive about a week or two later and thats all you need.
Also you can apply for a cinema pass, it costs £5 for three years with gives you 2 tickets for 1 price at over 500 cinemas in the uk. I think the address is https://www.ceacard.co.uk.
You can also apply for a rail card which gives you discount on rail and ferry travel all over europe. The rail card also gives you discount on holiday inn chain of hotels and crest hotel chain.

So in short you dont need to be on DLA to receive those travel cards.

I know there is a lot more benefits that a bus pass or rail card can give you so If anyone can add to this list then please do.

I live in Somerset, and here you get free travel on buses if you have a blue disabled parking badge. There is a form to apply you can get from your local council and is completed partly by you and partly by your doctor. If you are eligible you can then inform social services and they will send you a form to apply for a free bus pass. You don't get any help on the railways with this though.
