I'm 19 and have a disability that entitles me to middle rate care component and lower rate mobility component (or maybe its the other way round) DLA. Thing is people keep saying that because i get DLA i should be able to get discounted transport and stuff, how do i find out about that?

Do you live in London or another big city? Or in Scotland? They (well most) have free transport for disabled people. If you work more than 16 hours weeks then you’re entitled to disabled tax credit. Some libraries let disabled people off book fines and give them discount on renting DVDs, talking books etc. And there’s a card that costs £5 and gives you BOGOF cinema tickets at Odeon.
And a bursary for disabled students at uni (and some colleges)
Let us know where you live and i'll see what there is for you
(Otherwise i'll go into London and find that its no help cause you live in Newcastle hehe

Does one have to be on a benefit ? Or is being disabled sufficient? Which disabilities does this cover? Who decides whether the person is disabled and entitled to free travel? As usual, more questionsKizzyK wrote:Do you live in London or another big city? Or in Scotland? They (well most) have free transport for disabled people. As far as I was aware just being registered disabled was enough. There are a lot of disabled people who work.Barclaycard 3800

So what benefits etc do you need to get to be entitled to a free bus pass?
I am asking this as i have a friend (shes 31 years old)who is on DLA high care ,low mobility and income support and her husband gets carers allowance for looking after her and i wondered if she could claim it."Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."0 -

What do you mean registered disable,do you mean by claiming benefits etc.I thought to get badges etc for cars and bus passes in the past you had to be registered through social services.I could be wrong and didnt you have to be on high rate mobility DLA to get this?"Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."0 -
I'm from Scotland. I work 12 hours a week to suplement my student loan. The university wont apply for disabled student allowance for me because they say it has to be for something specific and there's nothing they can buy that will counteract my disability (i have a heart condition).0
