yes cardew i own a solar power scompany

just trying to state the fact that solar is percieved to be expensive by the man in the street

i hope saving the uk consumer is not seem as spam

    scott

All the figures show that there is a payback of 12-30 years.

So spending money [even at your special discounted 'honest gov' prices] on that sort of item is MADNESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Do you think that adding twenty exclamation points makes your argument more valid?

There are people who believe (quite rationally) that fuel prices will NOT be as low as they are now in ten years time. With that taken into account, solar is a very sensible LONG TERM investment.

No I don't, it's used as a way of showing my frustration at people who refuse to listen to reason.

I see your point wrt big fuel price rises [but bear in mind that fell prices feel for most of the 1990's], but thats still not a reason to buy solar NOW [capitals used for emphasis, not shouting].

If fuel prices DO go up exponentially, then when solar does become a sensible investment I'd buy it ie why rush out and pay a lot now when economies of manufacturing scale and technology improvements are coming along??

What you're suggesting is taking a gamble [£7-10K] that fuel prices MAY go up bigtime, I'm suggesting waiting until you have more certainty BEFORE spending the £10k.
  • on day in the near future solar power will just be called power
grid parity will be with us soon
ie when solar energy is cheaper than dirty energy ( oil/gas/nuclear )
    germany reckon 2/3 years

we rely every day on solar power its called the sun
wherever there is sunshine there is life
it is clean , green and will last for 5 billion years
man will have destroyed the earth long before then

our future energy security is a european super-grid
which is being built as we speak to connect
northern europes pv , wind , hydro & tidal/wave/bio mass energy resources with
southern europes/africa/middle easts solar & cpv together
    via a 800kvdc ( 800,000 volts ) multi GW giga-watt
distribution system - the same in being built in asia and china

otherwise we will get at the mercy of the russians for gas
and the saudis for oil for decades until it runs out
and who really thinks nuclear is a option
easy to build but very hard to decommssion

nations that do not plan now for future secure energy
will have to buy , trade or start wars to secure there energy needs

fossil fuels will get more expensive and run out FACT
green energy will get cheaper and will never run out FACT

i am not a tree hugger , but a realist green energy is the planets
only future and solar is the best option by far

look after the enviroment - its where you live
don,t leave the planet to the stupid

    True or false?

Solar power doesn't work. Sorry what I mean is there are no solar power systems that are cost effective.

This means that by the very nature of the science, any company selling solar power systems are scammers.

They rely on blatant lies such as 'pays for itself in 6 months' or 'reduces your electricity and gas bills by 75%'

What a load of sentimental emotional codswallop, opinions dressed as fact and guessing and rehashing vague statements........

No wonder people get ripped off by solar sales companies when you've got spammers and scammers like daytona600 running around with selective memories and the total inability to answer two simple questions......

"what payback periods do you tell you victims, sorry customers, that can expect [without the 'compare it to the interest on money in a savings account' sleight of hand], and

"what do you tell them about...so that they can make a properly informed decision?"

here's a few supplier website details on payback...
    1
    Payback
You may well ask what the pay back is for solar water heating systems. Admittedly compared with gas system installations the payback is over ten years.

    2
Your total outlay for a solar water heating will usually have been recovered in 10 years or less.

    3
    Payback 10-15 years

    4
The direct payback is around 10 to 12 years for most people

    and from RICS

The cost of a greener house

    Cost of solar water heater
    Solar water heater £5,000
    Energy saving per year £24
    Payback period 208 years
as you can get a grant of at least £2k towards this the payback period comes down massively so get them while they are about PLUS how good not to be reliant on external companies for say hot water!
Green and minimal chemicals is the new black- I know a fair old bit about sustainability, specially energy and transport stuff. If I can help- please ask!

    Absolutely spot on.

This, and similar threads, the solar enthusiasts seem to brand anyone who voices reservations about the cost/benefits as anti-solar.

Surely everyone hopes that solar generated energy will become financially viable. There are no envisaged technical improvements in output, the main thrust of research is to make the panels much much cheaper to produce.

At the moment, I haven't seen any authoriative source the claims solar is financially viable. Even if the proposed subsidies are approved, IMO it still won't be enough, not if realistic calculations and assumption are made.

Perhaps my biggest reservation is about the cowboys who operate in the solar sales field. We get enough on MSE peddling their wares.

The proposal that the proposed subsidies will only be paid if systems are installed by accredited firms, will be licence to kill!!!

Many thanks, if people go back and look at my original posting [that started this thread off], they'll see that's the the very question I was posing ie its the lying scamming companies....

    So in summary,

Solar sales companies ARE 100% lying, thieving scamming scum

Do your sums and you'll see....

DO NOT buy solar just YET

But absolutely 100% DO buy solar WHEN it is cost effective to do so
