Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Wednesday 20th May. This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly, but if not, it's not a problem.

Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Daily Threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning. Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good!

Morning Guys!

I cant remember the last time I started this thread....seems ages ago. Was up early and nobody had started it, so thought...what the heck:D

OH & I are away today, but the weather isnt looking too promising for next few days. Never mind...we have books to read and a couple of board games and the TV. It's going to be very quiet with no DD though.

Anyway, I have my list of stuff to remember to do and take.

Take care everyone.

Morning PP and to all who follow.

I have been awake for hours - just keep worrying, I have been in a new job for 3 months - should have been my dream job and should be making life for me and OH much easier BUT

My manager is the most difficult of people to get on with, talk about moving the goal posts, it shifts on a minute by minute basis not even week by week or hour by hour. Something that I did one way a minute ago she wants done a different way a minute later! My hours have been changed - actually my days have been changed!! She tells me something and then convinces me that it was something different she told me regarding dates and stuff.

I am new and bound to make mistakes but I get picked up on every little thing, even if it is something I did not know I did not know - if you know what I mean. I however, best not let her know of the numerous mistakes I find that she has made.

It is giving me sleepless nights, literally, did not sleep at all Saturday night and either can't get off to sleep or wake up at silly o'clock worrying.

This was supposed to be a new start for us, I have been off work due to depression and anxiety for years and now finally thought this is a stress free job - which it should be, only to find that the management is weak and my immediate boss is a disaster. Trouble is that there is only the two of us who work in the department so there is no dilution and no escape!

No work today - day off!! Plan nice Starbucks coffee with good friend and relaxing day.

Breakfast - Porridge - still chilly enough
    Lunch - Sandwich
Dinner - Chicken Curry HM with rice and Naan bread

    Sorry for the vent.

Hugs to all who need them.

    Morning.

Cloudy start to the day here. Work soon aftre the chores of animals and packed lunches.
Sorry to hear that Hermoine is having a rough deal at work. I know the type of person you mean and I have no solutions. It's almost bullying in the work place to one degree or other.

Cleaned the car yesterday and we ate leftovers. So the fridge is all clear ready for the next shop. Kung Po chicken for tea. (From a jar) with a few extras.

Hope everyone has a good day, Cheers

    Morning everyone.
Sorry to hear about your work stress Hermione. I don't really have any advice. Is there anyone above your immediate boss that you could approach. I can imagine how difficult it can be having only been there a short time. Can only suggest that you try and deal with the stress without worrying as that will only be detrimental to your health.

Weather cloudy here but dry. Veggies are thriving in my raised bed like they were in the small pots. I know it's my first time but I realy don't want to lose any. I've grown them from seed so put a lot of time and effort into them. I can't fail now!!!
Anyway might pop into my local town this morning seeing as how the M & S penny bazar starts today. Have a couple of library books to take back so that can justify the cost of parking too. Can I get down there though for 9am with two kids in tow? Hmmmmm will be a challenge and I won't be able to nose on the forum like I normally do!!!!
HM curry was nice last night although a wee bit too dry for my tastes. I did add a little bit of extra water to the tinned toms but I think it needed a little bit more. H scoffed it anyway so it can't have been too bad (as did the kids! first time with curry too!!!).
Having what's known as a "makeshift" in our house for tea which is basically when me and H fend for ourselves and sort our own tea out. Stuff like beans on toast or leftovers in the freezer so could be anything tonight!
Have a good day everyone, OS or not.

Good morning everyone. I've not been posting every day so thought I'd pop in. I'm nursing a slight hangover, having been drinking with our neighbours last night.

Hermoine - I hope things get better for you at work. Maybe you could carry a notebook with you when you talk to your manager, then, when she arranges something, you can note it down in front of her - that way, she won't be able to say something different.

Redruby - I've just been looking at your garden photos - looks like you've been working really hard. I've just planted tomatoes in tubs, but want to make some veg boxes, too. Yours look brilliant.

PenPin - have a great relaxing break.

Our neighbours are going away for a few days and we've been asked to look after their dog, rabbit and goldfish. The dog is a very lively dalmation crossed with something unrecognisable; he's very cute. We'll be taking him out for walks which will help us get to know the area a bit more. We live in a hamlet of about 25 houses, but it is near other similar hamlets, which we haven't explored yet. There are lots of little country lanes, too, so we should have some lovely walks.

Dinner tonight is something with mince - probably spaghetti bolognaise. Last night, we had strips of pork which I cooked in a sauce made from creme fraiche, leeks, garlic and mushrooms. Our chef friends use creme fraiche a lot for sauces; it's easy to use but tastes as if you've spent hours cooking it! It was the first time I'd tried it and we both enjoyed it, so I shall be using it a lot in future.

Anyway, must go and make another cuppa.

Will catch up with you all later.

    - enjoy your few days away!
Hermione - I can appreciate what you're going through as I had a similar situation last year. I agree with N9eav's comments and can't offer much advice except to make sure that you keep written notes about any concerns. ((((hugs)))) for you.

Dinner tonight is lasagne with sauce taken from freezer. Work at 7am - just seen the time:eek: so more later.

    Have a good day all

    Good Morning

PP - have a lovely break

Hermoine, sorry to hear about your job, think Mioliere's advice re the notebook is a very good idea.

Lovely start to the day here today & is meant to be very warm. OH will be restaining the decking boards and I will get loads of washing done and line dried to make the most.

Need to spend sometime in the office and do some ironing so will aim to get that done this morning. More ebaying to be done too.

Must remember to get chicken out of the freezer for tonight, forgot last night.

Potatoes are doing really well and need banking up but we have run out of earth - will sort that today somehow too

    Have a great day.

Good morning everyone  Beautiful morning here. I've been up since 5am, getting on with chores so that I can go out into the garden. My sausage maker arrived yesterday, so I'm hoping that the casings I ordered will be here soon. I'll then be able to get some pork from the butchers and have a trial run :D

DD has Citizenship and Biology GCSE today, which she's well prepared for. She then has no more exams until after half term, so we're off for a girly-shopping trip tomorrow morning :T

    Old Style jobs for today:
    • Broccoli and Stilton quiche for supper
    • make salad and coleslaw to accompany
    • baking (cake, buns, bread rolls, loaves, biscuits)
    • Flylady list
    • mow lawn (though that may be postponed, of course  )
    • weeding and pottering in the garden
    :j:j:j:j:j:j For Essex-boy :T

    Have a great day, everyone.

Quick post before I start to work.

Pen-pin hope you enjoy your break
Hermoine - def keep things written down in a notebook, this is always handy to do just in case the position deteriorates and you need any back up. Also it clarifies her instructions so she cannot change her mind!

Had a manic day yest hence lack of posting so hoping today will be better.

Redruby - congrats on your gardening skills - it looks great and hopefully you will get a bumper harvest.

WS please post - I always loose blog details so cannot keep up with LB if you don't
SunnyGirl - how is your DF doing now.
Diva - have you heard anything from Tristan and how are you?

Had SiL for tea yest, sat chatting whilst salmon and roast veg in oven merrily cooking away or so I thought - went to check up half an hour later to find oven fan was working but no heat coming through - looks like the thermostat has gone - why does it always happen when it is most inconvenient:mad:

Luckily I took an extended warranty on it (it is about 4 - 5 years old now) so hopefully will be covered under repair or renew section - I will have to ring them today. So not sure foodwise today - will have to be something I can cook on hob/steamer/microwave.

Right off to start work - will catch up later. Have a good day everyone

    Morning all,

    Pen pin, enjoy your break.

Hermoine, the note book is a great idea, but also get another one and write everything that happens in it, with dates and times, if push comes to shove, it will be much more convincing than you just telling someone. Is there someone else at work that you can tell ?

Another nice day here, but we are promised showers later , we seem to have had a lot of rain lately.

We took little dog to the beach last night, and ended up having the biggest chocolate coated ice cream you have ever seen :o, it was loverly, little dog ended up running alond the sand chasing at, and barking at the kite surfers :D, the kiters swoop their kites down and along the sand to wind her up, she loves it.

Off to work today, so will have a quick tidy before I go, dw needs putting on, and rubbish and recycling out.

Yogurt chicken for tea tonight, which I got out of the Times cooking mag, will let you know how it goes.

Kathy, i would love to see some photos of your place in france, can you put soem on FB ??

Essex Girl, great news about DH :j

Ok better get on, take care all xx

    Morning folks

Weather is ok here for now. WM on and breakkies are done ready for the nursery run!!!

Tonight will be a frenzy of getting the boys ready to go to their dads amd trying to ge a box of toys for them to keep at our old house as they are getting a oy box each....not sure how that will go down!!! They don't know they are going either as there is always chance of disappointment so a surprise is a better option.

Work today will be peaceful as no bosses in. Interviews were yesterday and there was one very easy on the eye candidate. I really hope they appoint someone that wont keep their mouth closed when things are going wrong.

hermoine - Hope something gets resolved for you. Make sure you keep note of everything? Do you have an HR department for advice or Occupational Health for support? Keep you chin up xxxx
    Pen-Pin: Have a great break
Essex-girl - Good news on OH
Red Ruby - Yoguhrt chicken sounds fab
nic1lou2 - It's like having your arm chopped off when the oven goes!!! Hopefully your warrenty covers it x

Although I get lonely  as a single mother there are always two smiling angels ready to give me the biggest hug in the world. Love you babies :grouphug:
