I thought if you were over a certain age (24 possibly) you are classed as a mature student and would be assessed on your own income. Is it a different case when you do a masters because you haven't long left education or something? What are you going to do and what about your child? It is like saying only the rich can afford to be clever.0

If it's a Masters, that's post-grad so there's no funding available. £4k seems very cheap for a Masters thoughNo longer using this account for new posts from 20130

I could really do with some advice.
I'm getting charged over £50 interest a month on an 'Annual Statement' - is this normal? I had no idea this was going to happen but then that's probably just my naivety. I finished my three-year degree in June 07 and I've been working full time since the start of March 2008 on a salary of £17k, yet they say haven't received anything from me? And even if they had, it wouldn't be enough to cover the interest would it so I'll never end up paying it off?!0 -
This may be a really thick question but I've been doing my student loan application online (with a very slow internet connection!) and I'm unsure what it means when it asks about 'Is your employer releasing you to attend your course' I work part time so can fit work in around my studies, so are they releasing me or not?0

You put in "No" for that, it's for students who are being sponsored by their employers.0 -

I don't know why the payments haven't started yet; have you informed your wages department?
I don't understand why you're surprised that you're paying interest on the loan, it's all explained quite clearly when you apply. Many people won't pay off their student loans, particularly if they're on a low income, take time off for child rearing, work part time & etc. If you've started your career on a salary of £17,000 then I'm sure that in a few years you'll have salary increases which will make inroads into the capital. If not, it's eventually written off and doesn't affect your ability to get a mortgage etc. Don't worry about it!0 -
I am having alot of trouble applying for my student loan for when I start university in september. I don't have a passport so I need someone to co-sign who is a professional with a UK passport and someone I have known for two years, firstly I had my manager sign this but it was rejected as he was not a professional. I have phoned my LEA and they just keep telling me to find someone to sign, not actual help when you have no one to sign, I don't have a dentist, my doctor has left my practice, my college is closed for the summer. I don't know anyone, I'm really worried as without this loan I can't go to uni. Help!
Your college won't be totally closed for the summer, there'll be academic staff around seeing to admissions etc Give the office a ring and they'll be able to put you in touch with someone appropriate who can sign the form for you.0 -

I'm about to start my 3rd year at Uni. My loan entitlement this year is less than the last two. I live with my parents, but I'm 28 and they do not financially support me and I do have to pay them £100 a month rent/keep but I never put this on my SLC form. Should I do it? Will I get a lot extra from the SLC?0
