Hi
I took out a student loan in 2000, anyway to cut a long story short i did not finish my course and have only paid very little on what i owe as when they changed the thresehold I was then not earning enough,as they used to take it directly from my wages. I have not worked now for 2 and half years due to having a baby. Is it possible that they can stop my interest and if i never pay due to low income will I have this debt for ever.0 -
Hey, I don't know if this has been said here before, I haven't read through this thread as it is mighty long, but it was the first result in a Google search for '08456077577 speak to a real person'.
Just wanted to let you know (if you don't already), I called them and went through all of the options trying to speak to someone about getting my sign in information for applying online, and just got more and more automated options, which as you can imagine is rather frustrating.
Just wondering what might happen, on the first 'menu', I pressed 0 and it told me this was an invalid command. So I pressed 9, and guess what? I got straight through to a real life, walking, talking, living doll. Well, a lady with a lovely accent.
Hope this saves people some time, phone bills and frustration! And again, apologies if it's been said before.Joined & started entering comps 06/04/08 : Prizes won/Free stuff got: 2x Wicked Tickets (£120)Asus EEE 4GB laptop (£220)
Jack Daniels Luggage Tag (£?)

Is it the case that a loan taken from 2000 will not get wiped off until the aged of 65? and if before 98 the loan will get wiped off within 25years?

I left uni in 2002, over my time there I took a student loan of approximately £11900.00. I've just had my first ever statement from them and the total is now £13145 :eek::eek: I don't think it'll ever be repaid at this rate!Small business owner 🧵 Ex MSE comper 🏆 Student loan repayer 💴 Romanian dog rescuer 🐕 Hopefully a cost of living survivor 🤞🏻0

As above, I've just received my first ever statement - though it claims to be number 5??? The actual statement that has come through yesterday is actually dated October 2006 - what is going on here?
I left Uni in '01, and have been earning above the £15k mark since, so they should of been taking money out of my PAYE contributions, shouldn't they??
From memory I borrowed about £7.3k (whatever the lowest amount available in '98 was), I now owe £8807, so can only assume they've been putting debt on, but not taking a bean of payment!
What can I do about this?? Looking through the site, the basic recommendation would be put cash into a savings account instead, but what do I do about them charging me 7 years worth of interest, and not taking any of my money through the system they said they would?!!??!?!0 -

They should be taking it out of your PAYE contributions but for some reason it doesn't always happen automatically - I hed to tell my employer who informed them. Check your pay slip and it will say if they are taking student loan payments under the same section as tax and NI.
Having said that my statement came through this morning too. The amount they reckon they received in 06/07 is too low and they reckon they received nothing at all in 07/08. I earn quite a bit over 15k and my pay slips show I was paying £96 a month for student loan repayments so guess I'm going to have to get on the 'phone to them!0 -
I left Uni in 2003 without graduating. I have been paying off £5 a week as a voluntary repayment for a few years now but this barely seems to have made a dent in the £5000 I borrowed. I have recently changed employer and earn over £15,000 but no one from SLC has contacted me and there are no deductions from my payslips. After looking on this site I am debating on cancelling my voluntary repyments and putting the money into an ISA instead with a view to saving money up to pay it off later. What does anyone think??

You don't pay any interest on your loan. It's all based on inflation. My husband earned 17000 in 07/08 and i received a letter saying send us proof, which i did inc. proof of financial commitments like 7.5K mortgage payments per year and i recieved a letter from SLC this morning saying we owed them 871. Does anyone know why this is?
Does it say anything in the letter you were sent?0 -

Have spoken to work - sounds like they haven't asked, so haven't been given my info!?
I'm busy today, but will call SLC tomorrow and find out what the chuff is going on. Yes, my due diligence should probably of included checking this sort of crap - but then again, their due diligence should of seen them taking my money as originally arranged, not just lumping me with extra interest, or inflation, whatever you want to call it!
Should be a fun call.... :rotfl:0 -
I am having alot of trouble applying for my student loan for when I start university in september. I don't have a passport so I need someone to co-sign who is a professional with a UK passport and someone I have known for two years, firstly I had my manager sign this but it was rejected as he was not a professional. I have phoned my LEA and they just keep telling me to find someone to sign, not actual help when you have no one to sign, I don't have a dentist, my doctor has left my practice, my college is closed for the summer. I don't know anyone, I'm really worried as without this loan I can't go to uni. Help!0
