Can you find a payslip or P60 or P45 from your job? Are SL deductions shown on any of them? If not, then you'll know you've not been paying. Normally the employer is told to start making deductions, I doubt you're the only one to have slipped through the net.Signature removed for peace of mind0

Thanks Sue for your reply. I got my p45 through when I was traveling and it doesn't show anything about payments to the SLC. Even though I have slipped through the net somehow they might look at me as a somebody who has been avoiding payments.0

Thanks again Sue, fingers crossed. Would anyone know what is going to happen or what the likely outcome is going to be?0

Hello,
Can you advise, I am on pip, esa income based, recieve HB & CT as a single mom.
My son wants to live at far away uni, i just dont know how i will meet the accommodation costs for each year. Will his loan & maintenance grant cover it, will he get these monies for each year. Tried telling him to choose a local uni but wants to move away. I have no saving, dont want him to start a course then cant afford to pay the next year. Please can you tell me will i loose my benefits? What happens if he starts then moves back home mid year? Thank you0 -

You need to be clear with him that his costs may exceed his loan and grant (although he'd probably get maximum grant), but the same would be true if he was closer to home. You also need to be clear with him that you're not in a position to subsidise his costs. So he'll need to get a job, and / or use his student overdraft, and learn to live frugally. Now's a good time to start ...
You're unlikely to lose your benefits if he's not at home - why would you? If he does come back home, then the expectation is that he's contributing to the household budget, so some of your benefits may reduce, the means-tested ones.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
I have 2 'children' at university next year. Are there any additional allowances for grants. Unfortunately we are just above the threshold for a grant when applying for finance but there is no info re having more than 1 student in the same family also at university.
Pleasecan you help! Thanks0 -
I started my first student loan in 1997 and had two more after , then I graduated (2000).
In 2001 I returned to Uni to start a PGCE and had a new loan .
I thought they had all been passed to Eurudio but recently I received a statement from SLC so I am not sure who has what now. I am presuming the 2001 loan has stayed with the SLC.
I will soon be 50, so I believe some of the loans will be cancelled - any ideas which ones? Do I need to do anything and will I be notified?
Thanks in advance0 -
Hi
I was wondering if any one can help me
I was due my payment of my student grant on the 20/04/15. Its was marked as paid at that time however was not showing in my bank. Then it went to failed and then approved and then to blocked in a couple of days. I think spoke to several people that said they have unblocked it and it'll take 3-5 days. Then i had enough of this so phoned the complaints line. From there they said it was a problem with the system so that it had to go back to the assessors. So they asked me not to put a complaint in and that it would be sorted. I took there word for it, then a couple of days later a man called and said the reason was due to them not knowing if they would pay the retainer over the summer to keep my space for my child however as he will be attending they said they would. He then told me this would take a further 3-5. Yet again this never happened. I have now put in a complaint 4 days ago and has yet to be acknowledged. In the mean time another manager has been dealing with it and apparently sorted it and would have the payment on the 21/05/2015. However i have checked my account and has gone back to blocked.
Im at the end of my tether at being lied to and nothing being resolved and now my nursery if i don't pay my fees are fining me and even stop my child from coming which i can let happen. Is there anyone higher i can complain to or an independent person that can help? If anyone could give me advise i would be very grateful

Hi slc worker, my son is just nearing the end of his first year at university.
He applied for a student loan and maintenance grant and again has been accepted for his second year and given funding, however he has been given 1,000 appox less over September 2015-2016 than his first year at uni. Do you know if this applies to all students, just wondering why such a large drop in financial help. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks0
