Im currently 17 and finishing my A levels and am in a country outside the eu to only study for my A levels. I have completed my GCSE's in the UK but went back to my country with my dad to do my A levels as he believed i would learn better due to the cheaper cost of home tutoring. So my question to you is if i come back to the UK as soon as I'm done with my A levels will i be eligible for student finance noting that i already have an indefinite leave to remain and was not old enough to live by myself without my dad. Prior to me leaving i lived in the UK for about 3 and a half years which compared to the 2 year absence due to my minor status and inability to live by myself is a shorter time. I hope you can answer my question quickly and i would really appreciate any help you can provide and am open to answer as many more question you need. Note that my father already has a permanent residence permit like myself and my mum is already a citizen with a passport. Thanks :D

Im really confused my daughter has been given a maintenance loan of £3610.00 but when i have checked this figure against the chart giving you the approximate amounts being awarded the figures state even a student living with parents would be awarded approx £4500.This is also not living in London.

Im not sure how her figure is so low ?

Why are most students being awarded from £4500 including living at home?

When they have our earnings i am expecting her to get a maintenance grant also but they are still working on this.

Im really confused does anyone have the answer?

Also she won't be living at home her accommodation will be £625 per month .

I wonder if you've missed the fact that receiving a maintenance grant will reduce the maintenace loan?

No i do realise that but as they haven't calculated the figures yet this is the amount assuming we don't get a grant , we have checked how much she would likely receive using the tables and charts and see when this has been calculated she would only receive approx £500 grant.

Basically the basic amount is at least £4500 before you apply for a grant, although its in the system they have not agreed a grant so this is the figure.

    Grateful for some advice please.

My DD is about to start her 4th year( medicine).

Last year I completed a current year income form and she got substantially more grant. When I tried to complete the online household income form in June 14 for the 14/15 academic year it would not let me proceed until I had provided evidence of my income for 13/14 financial year.

Eventually I got the form to complete and the evidence together and submitted. Today she has had online notification that she will get roughly the same as last year, and several hundred ponds have appeared in her bank account.

At no point has anyone asked me about my income for this financial year ( which will be substantially more than last), or for the year 2012/13 which I believe would be the normal one to go on.

I am reluctant to contact SF again as it has been a nightmare getting last year's income verified, and it is so close to her start date. I assume that next summer I will again be asked in August to verify my earnings for 14/15, and then money will be owed back ?

Is it possible to request that 2012/13 is used at this point as the earnings year?

Also, I understand that in her final year there is no student finance available, it is an NHS bursary. Is this correct, and is it means tested in a similar way? If so, which year would be looked at?

    Thanks

    Hi

My great niece is starting at Birmingham university at the end of September. She has been awarded her course fees and a loan, Her parents earn less then £35000 per year. I think she should be able to get a maintenance grant as well. Can she still apply for that.

I have a feeling there may have been an error on either her initial application or she did not apply for the grant in first place.

Her parents did say that they were not asked for any details of income

My daughter has been given the minimum loan amount, based on our household income for the year. What I cant find anywhere is a "recommended" parental contribution on top of that, as she obviously cant live on £3,610

    Froggitt,

Check that she applied for the grant as well unless your income is over approximately 42.6k

My great niece was given the same amount, I thought something was wrong and went to check the application with her and found she had not applied for the grant.

They are now filling the forms in and sending them away tomorrow.

You can download them from her account with the student loan company
