Hi guys,
I am going to be starting Uni on the 30th September. (Its not too late to change my bank on Student Finance is it?)
I am looking at all the bank accounts that are on offer and I am a little confused.
What do people recommend as the best overall one?
I am going to be living on campus but coming home frequently as its only an hour on the train. A rail card would be great, better to get an account that gives me one or buy one separate?
I also have over 6k in a Natwest account at the moment that I have earnt through working so I can move it out of there into another if I am going to gain anything.
Thank you0 -

Santander is the one that you want if you want a free four year rail card.0 -
Hi there,
I am a 33 year old due to start a Level 1 Diploma Bakery course. Does anyone know of any finance/loans available for this type of course and my age. I have had no luck with anything as of yet. any advice would be appreciated.
Many thanks
Marcus
P.S. This is to finance the cost of living for the year as I get the course for free0 -
Hi, have already posted this question but then saw your thread.
To apply for a student loan you must declare parents' interest on savings.
The Student finance England form states
You must include interest you receive on bank, buildingsociety and other savings accounts unless it is specificallynon-taxable, for example, a non-taxable Individual SavingsAccount (ISA) etc.
However
Are non-taxed interest on savings of a non tax paying parent included in this scenario of 'specificallynon-taxable'?
ie, if you have ordinary savings in an ordinary account that you do not pay tax on, due to being a non tax payer (ie do not work so do not earn)
I have not seen any advice anywhere that specifically explains this situation. We rang the student loan company and they said it would be included (ie we would not have to declare non taxed ordinary savings) however we are still not sure this advice is correct.0 -

Part-time work?“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
A gripe.
Son sent the signed form back to SFE in March. Heard nothing more, yesterday went online to register at uni for his second year and there is no loan in place.
Go online to SFE and they haven't processed/ or acknowledged receipt of his signed form. Grrrr! You would have thought they would email students if this was the case.
Now reprinted the letter and posted it yet again. Maintenance loan will be delayed and we have no idea of if and when SFE will process his loan.
If anyone has a fax number for SFE I could fax it over, but they don't seem to advertise a fax number.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Have you contacted Student Support? They can usually contact people higher up the chain in SFE but as far as I'm aware you can't fax or email scanned copies. They want everything posted in a hard copy.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

I'm sorry, there's no maintenance funding for a course like this. Most people would work alongside it to support themselves.0 -
I submitted an application for student finance in June and have been monitoring it online. I rang up a few weeks ago to check on it and was told that it had been submitted but may be a couple more weeks.
I rang them again today as my course starts on Monday and was told that there was a problem with the application as they needed my partner's NI number posted to them. Apparently they sent a letter out two weeks ago, but it never arrived.
I have posted the information they need, but it will take some time for my loan to be accepted.
I rang my uni today and they have told me I can still register and start the course, but if my loan is refused I will have to drop out and will be liable for 33% of the year's fees. I really can't afford to pay nearly £3000 for a degree I can't finish.
I don't think that my loan would be refused, but I suppose it is possible. Does anyone have any suggestions?0 -

As long as you meet the residency criteria then you will get the tuition fee loan. They need his NI to work out your maintenance loan entitlement0
