SFE do not advise universities on what funding one of their courses would attract though.

I'll make some general enquiries on your behalf. Just bear in mind that what your university are recommending you to do is fraud, and when that does come to light if you go ahead with that, you'll have all your support terminated and could be looking at a criminal prosecution.

I notice that the website says,

    "What about funding?
You can still apply for the usual grants and loans available to you depending on your country of residence and family income. Click here for more information on fees and student finance."

which seems to me to be highly misleading.

You don't need to until they ask for it in future years.

It is. Might be that well hidden that I don't know. I'll give SFE a call tomorrow and get them to check Protocol for the information. Only way I can find out for certain.

Just had a call from a complaints manager at Darlington to advise that the appeals team have said I'm eligible for finance and they are going to approve it ASAP :) Didn't really get a clear answer what had changed but the manager said the appeals team have said it should not have been declined and passed it back to the complaints team to reinstate it and the issue was due to confusion caused by differences between welsh and english systems.

Thanks again for all the help with this. Have a great weekend:T

I'm actually shocked by that decision, but congratulations nonetheless.

Hi Taiko - I was pleasantly surprised with the funding decision. I was expecting quite a fight after looking at the regulations and other online resources. I thought I would be unable to get the decision changed and would have to aim for compensation through another avenue.

The vague answer made me wonder if they would rather change their interpretation of the rules rather than admit that a mistake had been made when the course eligibility was being assessed (particularly as SFE were saying the course was not eligible, Student Finance Wales were saying it was and the english and welsh legislation wording looks identical), but I'm not going to argue that point with them!

I've requested and received email confirmation of the decision. I've PM'd it to you in case you're interested.

    Thanks again
    Ian
