No apology will be coming. Based on the post, the advice given is correct. There's no grounds to appeal based on the regulations, and in the post mentioned they openly admit to providing information they know is not true.
Fraud (n) - deceit, trickery, sharp practice, or breach of confidence, perpetrated for profit or to gain some unfair or dishonest advantage.

In this case, the poster declared figures that they know were not true, got caught, and in giving the wrong figures would've been at a financial advantage. It went on for two months, would the OP have owned up if they weren't caught?

Does anyone know if it's possible to speak to 'head office'at SLC directly? I have just rung SLC and spoke to a very pleasant person who put me on hold whilst they spoke to head office . I really want more than reassurance - I want , well, action....

Hi. I've had an absolute nightmare trying to help my daughter (who is studying in California on an exchange year) and phoned student finance at least once a month for 6 months trying to chase up a travel grant payment she was due. I asked for a number or email address for Head Office but they refused. In the end I felt I had no option but to write a complaint and emailed

Darlington_Complaints@slc.co.uk

Since then I have only ever dealt with the complaints department and things have been generally handled very swiftly (apart from a refusal to pay for her train fare to collect her Visa which Taiko is going to assist me in appealing against...) Good luck!

Thanks, Debrac. I have rung again today and been told someone will call me back today - I hope they do, but my continued faith in human nature is seriously waning. It is beginning to look as though proof of earnings paperwork may well have gone astray somewhere - which now means a hefty default payment will be taken by direct debit imminently. With potentially serious financial implications

Believe me, I know what its like. They have lost various documents that I and my daughter have sent to them over the last couple of years, even when it's been sent by recorded/next day delivery. How about asking to speak to a manager next time you phone? It didn't really help me with my issues but it may be worth a try. Wish I could give more advice but nothing really happened for me until I emailed the complaints department.
• Hi there,

I currently have a student loan of just under £15,000 from 2005 and 2007. I worked in the UK for 3 years and paid a bit off there (although it was never much more than the interest), now I am working abroad and have received a letter today telling me my monthly repayments. I am supposed to pay £389 per month - considerably more than the £72 a month I paid in the UK.

I realise that the loan repayments are based on my income, which has increased significantly with my move abroad, however I cannot believe the SLC website when it claims to take into account the cost of living of each country. I currently pay the equivalent of just under £1000 per month in rent for a room in a basic 2 bed 1 bath apartment, it costs more than £3 for a loaf of bread. Is there anything I can do to try and lower my expected payments - they will represent more than 10% of my pay?

The second issue is that I have only just received the letter, my first payment is due today! The phone lines are closed and there is no way I can meet this deadline.

Advice appreciated.

Unless you meet the criteria in Schedule 1 of The Education (Student Support) Regulations 2011, then no.
