  • Hi

Can anyone tell me how long it is currently taking for the adult dependant grant applications to be processed please? I applied for student finance in september and requested my application to include the ADG but for some unknown reason this was not looked at, my application for tuition fees is still being processed due to doctors notes etc and thats fine, i spoke to someone in the middle of december who checked I had sent in all the relevant information for the ADG and that they would forward my application over to the correct department, just wondering how long this might take? I am aware that the advisors are currently working on the 8th december work for the normal student finance information but the lady didnt know how to check how long it takes for the ADG department

    Thank You

It's in the same workload I believe. Who are you claiming the ADG for, and what is your age?
  • for my partner, I am 24, but have a baby and have self supported myself for 5 years, i sent this evidence in and thats all been processed, fingers crossed it might all be done soon then, just hoping the latest doctors letter is enough now for my extenuating circumstances, if they review the doctors letter next week how long will it take before they let me know if its ok?

    thank you!

Ordinarily resident would mean that, upon finishing employment/education, it is not the intention to return home overseas.

Could you possibly post up, or PM me with, a breakdown of everything she has done since age 14? Also a bit of background on the parents situation would probably help. I realise that it seems the SFE advisor is trying to make you jump through hoops, but it's part of their job to do this I'm afraid. If I could maybe have a bit more information I'll be happy to put the case together for you, backed up with the regulations that are needed, so that every base is covered.

Thanks for this - I'll get her to start typing up anything relevant tomorrow and PM it over asap.

It's a correct assessment, as a student under 25 is not eligible for ADG under Regulations 42(1)(h).

Even though I have self supported for over 3 years and I am a parent? I have spoken to a few advisors who have said I met the criteria and it has now been passed across to be awarded? Why is it that you need to be over 25, surely it should just depend on if your a independant or dependant student?

Even though you are classed as independent, which entitles you to some grants, you do not meet the eligibility criteria for ADG. Shame that the SFE advisors have indicated otherwise, but that's the way it is. There's no grounds for appeal against it, but you can always made a complaint about the incorrect advice given.

Hello, I wonder if anyone can help. Sorry if this has been addressed before!

I want to start an open university degree in September. I plan on doing the equivalent of a full time students work load.

I am 26 and have previously been to university but only borrowed about 3K as I had to drop out after the first term as my parents could no longer afford the fees. I will finish paying off this loan in the next couple months.

This new system is of great benefit to me as there are no payments upfront and this is what has stopped me going back to uni previously, however would I be eligible for the loan to cover tuition fees as I have already had a maintenance loan previously?

I would like to add that I am working full time at the moment, I live with my partner and I have no children incase any of that matters.

    Thanks,

    Becky
