What was the reason you couldn't claim benefits? Just wondering whether the reasons given for you not being able to receive benefits could be related to why SFE doesn't think you're independent.0 -
Indeed, think need to know a lot more info. If you wish to PM bits to me, feel free.0

I meant, if they're saying that you're not an independent student, whose income are they assessing your finance on as your father's dead and your mother's absent?0 -

I was told that because I was an apprentice I wasn't allowed to claim anything so I didn't.:wave:0 -

I was wondering what you advice is on the following.
My step son started at College this term. having got worse results than expected he went through a clearing system and managed to get a place at The Duchy College in Cornwall. As soon as he was accepted he applied for a student loan then mopved into halls of residence and started his course but as yet (December) he hasn't had any money come through. From what I can gather the College hasn't confirmed he is a student and the loan people haven't sent their confirmation of his funding.
Without giving specific details does this sound possible and what should he be doing to quickly resolve this?
e.g. Both he and his father have told us they can't print off the funding application forms to email them to the college because the 'Print' button doesn't work although they can see them onscreen.
While all this is going on me and my partner are paying his costs/room rent. etc with no knowledge of when we will be getting all or part of our money back.
This can't go on as we have now spent what little saving we had so you advice will be very much appreciated,

Invicta, your step son should take himself to the student support services and get them to assist in printing forms, finding out what the college has / has not done etc. Also there may be hardship grants he can apply for.Signature removed for peace of mind0

Which course is he on, out of interest? That may be a reason behind it.0

Savvy_Sue,
Thank you so much for your advice. This is new to us/him/his dad so none of us know what we should/could be doing.
I'll pass-on your advice and hopefully we can get something happening. I did send an email to the college administration people asking them what we to do but as yet have had no reply and the main switchboard number isn't being answered. Maybe they are shut for the Christmas holidays?
Once again thank you for your help,
