Should count as dependent, but obviously any of her earned income would be used in calculating the disregard.0

it's done on a sliding scale, use the student finance calculator to find out how much you'd be entitled to0 -
Hiya,
I have a couple of questions.
Firstly, on the application form for finance, they ask you for your preferred address and your permanent one; do they write to you at the preferred address? Just I am going to be sofa surfing for 2 months with no permanent address so want the mail to go to my preferred address from where I can collect it safely as and when...
Also, I heard you can get finance for 4 years, but also that it doesn't pay for postgraduate study; would I be able to do my BA and then an MA in a year and get this MA funded or not? I assume not but someone I know told me she did it....
Thanks in advance for any/all advice.0 -

They write to you at your preferred address (at least they always have with me)Flickering_Ember wrote: »Also, I heard you can get finance for 4 years, but also that it doesn't pay for postgraduate study; would I be able to do my BA and then an MA in a year and get this MA funded or not? You can get finance for the length of your course + 1 year to allow for mistakes. Unless you are taking an UG masters course in general you wouldn't get student financefor a masters degree after your degree. Though there are Masters degrees which are funded.0 -
That's great; thanks MrsManda.0

Hello
I am 26 and due to start a PGCE in September this year. I have contacted Student Finance England to ask re: my eligibility for the loan and maintenance grant, but I the advice that I have received from them has left me a bit confused. They informed me that I should receive the grant if I state in my application that I am ‘single’ and over 25 that I would be eligible for the grant. They stated that even though I currently live with my partner (who doesn’t support me financially) I would be classed as single.
However whilst filling out the form online there are 2 options for marital status including ‘single’ and ‘living with partner’, which has completely thrown me! Does anyone know how this would affect my eligibility for the grant? Any advice on what I could do would be very much appreciated!
Many thanks!0 -
What they've told you is crap. It'll be on your partners income as you are living with him. This is regardless of whether he supports you financially.
PGCE's do get a small amount of the grant non-means tested, but need to be MT to get the full grant. He'll need to declare his income.0 -
Hi,
I am out of work and have been excepted onto a degree course starting in Sept. I am currently in a DMP with the CCCS and am now wondering if an application for a student loan to pay my tuition fees from student finance England would be rejected on the grounds of a credit check. Do you know if student loans are credit checked as i have no other way of paying the fees.
Thanks in advance..0 -
No credit checks for student loans. However, if you have an old style loan and are in arrears with the SLC, you'll be ineligible until they're repaid.0
