    Hello,
Perhaps this question has been asked, if so I apologise (perhaps a FAQ in the first post may be useful?)
I was wondering what the situation with writing off the student loan was, there has always been rumours of working abroad (and so not being financially trackable) and therefore after 5 years the debt is written off, or something? anywho I was curious as I will probably will be taking an international (travelling) job at the end of my course.
    Many thanks

If you leave the UK you have to inform the SLC who will calculate your repayments for you. Information can be found HERE
Income based loans are written off 25years after you become eligible to be repaid. Information here

If you withdraw from a course, and was overpaid a maintenance loan, but can't repay it back- will it affect future funding? will it be deducted from your next years entitlement? or just added on to your account till you start working.

    Thanks...

It's now likely to be deducted from future payments.

My student loan application (for 4th year of the course) asks me to send proof of birth date/place saying there will be a delay if i don't. Now they've already seen this stuff when i first applied and i don't have easy access to my birth cert (and can't really risk sending my passport as i need it for a holiday visa application). Do they really need it? Will it cause a major delay?

Ignore it Marzipan, it's not needed.

It's an error on the online application that is supposed to be being resolved. ID docs are only needed for year one.

    Hello
My youngest son starts uni in October. My youngest daughter will be doing a Masters after graduating last year. She has had a year out and is returning for the one year so we will have two children at uni. Will she count as a dependent child when applying for my son?

I know she is 22 but she will be self funding the masters, not entitled to anything so in reality she is dependent (she has found only a min wage job in her year off which is why she is returning to uni)

Secondly, my OH is retired. If I retired next year, 2011, our income will drop drastically for the 2nd year of my sons study. (Daughter hopefully moved on by then) Will our income still be based on 2010-11 tax year or can they take into account the big drop? £50K to £12K

Many thanks - I have read 72 pages and found answers to most questions.
Doing voluntary work overseas for as long as it takes .......
My DD might make the odd post for me

I don't know about this but in terms of your income, if your household income drops by >15% you can fill out a current year income assessment form.
