Should've had some funds at least. Have you called them for info?
I can't call them as he is not a dependent (he's 26). He chases them up regularly from the student finance office, but still nothing.
He's had a loan from the Uni to help with rent a couple of times. It is getting ridiculous. If I wasn't helping him out, he would have had to drop out. I am a single person and not a big earner.0 -

Hi,
I have just registered today to do an open university degree on health and social care. This is my first degree and have no knowledge at all of uni life or the financial side of things. I have paid my first course fee today but was wondering if I can get a student loan or any financial help at all. I currently work 18.5 hours per week and my husband works full time. We have got 2 children and live together. Can you suggest any help?0 -

If you look on the OU's website there is a self assessment section on finance where you can calculate whether you can get any financial help with the fees. This is based on household income.
http://www3.open.ac.uk/study/explained/financial-support.shtml
If your income is too high you can spread the cost of the fees through the year.
Student loans are not applicable for OU study as it is part time and therefore no maintenance funding is available, however,if you are eligible for a fee grant you may also get a small grant to cover resources.0 -
Hi
I was at uni between 2002-2003 and have about £12,000 loan to replay. I started making payments when i was working, but have now returned back to uni for a 1 year course (finishing august 2010). A relative wants to give me £4000 to pay back some of my student loan. Firstly is it possible to make a lump sum payment? Also is this advisable to do this at this time or would i be better holding on to the money until I'm working again.
Many thanks in advance for any help/info0 -

You'd be made to pay anything off right now. Interest rate is currently 0%, and will be that way until September. If you're getting the money, bung it in the best savings account you can get, then reassess the interest rates come September.0 -
Hmm, is he living with a partner? Seems odd to me that. More info you can give me the better. I might be able to have a word with some people if needbe.
He's renting a 3 bed flat with 2 other students sharing. He was first started studying in 07/08. He was under 25 at that time. He did 2 years of that course, then Sept 09 changed to another course (went into the 2nd year of it). So he applied in Sept for the 09/10 finance as an independent person. Not sure if they have given him a reason for this delay - not that I know of.0 -
Should be receiving full fee loan, maintenance loan and maintenance grant as a single independent student. Easiest kind of assessment to do too.
Must be something up with it, not sure what.0 -

I think you mean that he's be mad to pay it off and I totally agree!0
