If there is a total of a 15% change then you can inform them.

^^ you download the form above and send that to them.
  • Hi My daughter is travelling and not paid anything off her studeny loan and told them she is travelling and given them evidence of us financing her trip - but she is getting charged a £1000 a year interest. How can she ever be able to support herself - is it best to start paying the interest or leave it till she's 65 and it will be £50,000 and wiped off?

If she's not paying anything off her student loan then of course interest will be added. However, there's no question of not being able to support herself, she simply needs to repay when she starts to earn over £15,000, and then only 9% of anything she earns over that amount.

There's really no point in paying anything off now if she doesn't need to.

Interest charges are not linked to whether people repay or not. She only needs to make repayments when she is earning more than £15k pa and these will be deducted alongside tax and national insurance. On an £18k pa income, she would pay back £5.19 per week - entirely affordable.

She is free to make additional repayments whenever she likes, but to be fair, why bother?

My loan has been growing for the last 10 years:eek: This will be the first year mine will actually go down.

  • Hya don't know if you can help.

I did all the necessary much earlier in the year. Thats what makes me so hopping mad... Just realised on the notification that came back in July that in Maintenance Grant/Loan column is 0 amount due.

Because I've not apparently asked for it... (I did).

Just tuition fee payable??. I sent our income details off. months ago. These came back to us. Why would I sent these off, if I did'nt want a Maintenance Grant. We were/are between us earning under £25,000.

So should get full grant hopefully. I've now sent a form off registered post. applying for Maintenance Loan...( We don't want a Loan for Maintenance we only want a grant.)
But could'nt find a form for this type only.. on website.

Is there a direct line at all to help sort this mess out?? - or is it just a case of hanging on...

Do you think it will be easy for sfe. to tie up our earnings data that were sent. with the new request.

    I live in hope...

    Any advice ...greatly received..

    Cheers.

They are giving everyone non income assessed for now and then going back to those that asked for income assessed as it takes more time. They want everyone to have some money when they go so they are just doing basic allowances for now.
  • Hello, I posted here before and am hoping someone can help. I was a student for four years - but left university without a degree. Last year I enquired about going back to university and enrolled in an access course. I was told that because I wasn't 'progressing' (with access being equal to A level) I couldn't get funding for the access course, but I would get funded as normal if and when I did progress into university. after the access course, I got a great grade and got a place at a great university - but student finance then said they wouldn't provide finance as I had previous study. I appealed this decision and reapplied - supplying extensive supporting documents from my previous university and a statement from myself explaining that I had health problems throughout my previous study, and that was why I didn't complete the degree. After not hearing anything from student finance for weeks, I called on Monday and they now want a statement from my doctor outlining the details of my health problem. I was also told to make the statement 'as compelling as possible'.

I am still waiting to hear a final decision - But induction started this week and I enrolled at University today.

I'm feeling really frustrated and upset. The decision seems to be wholly financial on their part - I understand that they can't fund people over and over again, but I have demonstrated that I was physically incapable of completing my degree first time around, and I have worked a full year to gain the qualifications necessary to get onto this degree course. If I had been told that funding was impossible to get a second time around a year ago, when I first enquired, it would have saved a great deal of stress and heartache - and financial stress - now.

I don't really have a question as such, I just needed to put this out in a place where someone with some expertise might be able to help - in any way. I'm seeing a doctor at my surgery tomorrow, and hopefully I'll be able to get a letter for student finance. But I still have no idea if that will even help - I could still get nothing, and it would leave me totally unable to attend university, and a year of study and hard work wasted.

    Thanks.

    Goaround,
try not to despair too much, it shouldn't be impossible for you to get funding if you were medically incapable of completing your previous degree. I had two first years (almost a third) before giving up on my first degree. I was initially assessed as not being eligible for funding but because I'd mentioned on my application that I'd been ill during my previous degree I was told that I may be reassessed should I provide evidence of my illness. I provided a detailed description of my illness at the time plus a letter from my consultant stating what was wrong, how I was treated and how I am now.
This worked and I recieved funding :)
