    Hi Al,

I applied online for my 2nd year student fiance for uni

The declaration form has come back but it looks like I've applied for a loan aswel as the non repayable grant.

I do not need the loan. I only want a grant.

    What should I do?

I thought that you weren't eligible for the grant if you didn't have the loan, but I'm not sure about that.

Read Martin's advice about putting it in a high interest account; there's lots of information on here about doing that.

You can pick an choose which bits you want (as long as you qualify for them!), but stashing an unwanted loan is always my top tip!

You need to sign & send back your declaration even if your funding is not correct. If the loan is showing, the easiest thing to do is to print off the loan request forms again and when you fill them in, put £0 in the amount you would like to borrow boxes. You have to tell them in writing you don't want it, and this makes it quite clear.
  • Hi, i didn't defer my student loan and now owe just over 4 grand. My problem is i now want to return to University and have been offered a place but have been refused a student loan due to the arrears. Honours student loans have refused to defer my account and have said i will not be consisered for a loan unless i pay off all the money i owe. Today i tried to get a loan from my bank to pay this off but they refused it due to bad credit rating (this is because of the student loan). Does anybody have
any advice on what i could do next? desperatly need help!

But ive also found a Birth Certificate form (Applicants declaration of identity) - Do i need to send this back? Im not sure If it is my form or my sisters??/
  • thank you for your reply Lokolo,

I had considered doing this but as i'm in my 30's no husband/family i feel its something i need to do a.s.a.p. although if i don't manage to pay off the loan or sort this matter out i will have to do that.

Have you phoned the welfare / finance people at your uni? They are the people with access to hardship funds. Phone them and make a big fuss!

I feel extremely silly, I had let my course leader in the UK know I was experiencing problems, but after this thread, I sent an email telling her how bad the situation was. She put me through to the right people and my loan got paid today!!!!

so thank you for your advice, extremely relieved now!;)

PS: what is the difference btwn student loans company and student finance england?,

Student Loans Company = Student Finance England + Student Finance Wales + Student Finance Scotland + Student Finance N Ireland (I think N Ireland...)

I presume it's just the arrears and charges you're being asked to pay immediately?

I have to agre with Lokolo that you may have to wait until next year.
