As a parent earning £64K in 2009 but £57K in 2007/08 my son won't get a maintenance grant. However I have 3 dependent kids and a wife who doesn't work so in effect including my son going to uni I have 5 dependnants. My son has been assessed at a rate of 75% of the maintenance loan and will get a full tuition fee loan. SFE are requesting my P60 for 2007/8 because my son applied for 100% of the maintenance loan.So my question is: Will my residual income be such that the 75% of the maintenance loan will be reduced once they see my 2007/8 P60?0

How do you work out what you you will get. The SFR guidance material is not helpful.
Basically I earn about £64K in 2008/9 and £57K in 2007/8
I have 4 dependant kids including 1 going to uni in October.
I have a wife who doesn't earn anything.
Currently the info received indicates full tuition fee and 75 % of maintenance loan but no maintenance grant or bursary etc.
So my wife and I will have to support the funding. However my son applied for 100% maintenance loan so now they want my P60. I'm now worried that if I send my 2007/8 P60 that it may reduce the amount of maint loan he can borrow below the 75% thesehold already offered.
Why can't SFE produce a single table or method of calculating what the funding will be so that we can plan?0 -

Couple of points:
- Its 72% not 75%.
- The 100% IS the 72%. He has requested 100% of the amount he is allowed (72%)
If the 72% goes down, it will be replaced by grant.
If you are not entitled for extra grant, but you are below the income assessed threshold, he will be entitled to extra loan.
He will get extra loan. So instead of getting 72%, he will get something like 80%.0 -

I assume you have asked your bank to extend your overdraft?
Yes, been through the bank, have used my overdraft to pay for my sons school fees. I sent an email to my course leader, but she is away until monday. I have no-one really who can take this on for me, and more than anyhting I have little time becasue funds are so low. I just don't understand0 -

Have you phoned the welfare / finance people at your uni? They are the people with access to hardship funds. Phone them and make a big fuss!Proud to be a MoneySaver!

Help... I am getting contradictory info. My daughter has a place at Trinity College Dublin, Republic of Ireland. She is English. Can she apply for any kind of student support in the UK system? I note that EU students coming into the UK can apply, and Irish students leaving Ireland to go to the EU can take their Irish entitlements with them. But I can find nothing certain about our case. I spoke to the Student Finance people and had the question referred to a senior advisor, who said go ahead, send the forms in. But to be honest I don't think he knew the asnswer any more than I do...
Any help gratefully received.
Thanks

I think your daughter will be eligible for the same funding as students in the Republic of Ireland as you are from an E.U. country. You can find more information about studying in an EU country HERE and in the Republic of Ireland in particular HERE0 -

Thanks again for your reply. Will certainly do that. I have sent a formal complaint in, I cannot take anymore of this stress, and hoping someone there will finally help out.0 -

Thanks for the reply, no, no-one to take it on, how can the NUS help? have had some advice to contact my home uni and ask for help, But I will try anything I am so stuck need to try everything possible. Why did they centralise everything if they can't handle the load?? was it better before or worse? I see many people are waiting on SF, the stress is unbearable now.0
