Cable has extended south to a fresh intra-day low of 1.6421 as more long positions are exited ahead of the G8 meeting, which gets under way in Lecce (Italy) later today. 1.6621 was yesterday"s eight-day high. 1.6600 was today"s Asian session top. 1.5803 was Monday"s 13-day low.

Sterling support points include 1.6400, 1.6380 (yesterday"s NY session base), 1.6365 (yesterday"s early Europe low) and 1.6345 (yesterday"s Asian session floor).

Cable has just tested 1.6380 (yesterday"s post-US retail sales data low)
as the greenback continues to rack up gains ahead of the G8 meeting in Lecce, Italy (which begins later today). Fundamentally, the USD is benefitting from Japanese Finance Minister Kauro Yosano"s Bloomberg-website reported comment that "our trust in US Treasuries is absolutely unshakeable".

1.6365 (yesterday"s early Europe low) and 1.6345 (yesterday"s Asian session base) are additional support points. 1.6241 was Wednesday"s floor (plumbed during
the NY afternoon).
