PayPal/E-Bay Are With Withholding My Money Unfairly

Hello -

I wonder if any one can help as I have hit a brick wall with nowhere to go.

Financially things have been tough for a while now, my husband was made redundant 2 months ago, so to try and make some money to keep us going and be able to pay the mortgage I decided to sell some things on E-Bay about 6 weeks ago, namely my wedding dress, my jewellery etc. I was quite successsful with my sales and managed to make over £1,300 in a month. I have had my E-bay account for about 3 years and have 100% feedback with a rating of 162.

Just over 4 weeks ago, Paypal decided to freeze my account with the £1,300 still in it, they informed me that due to Money Laundering laws I had to verify my account details and move from a personal account to a business account. I followed the steps involved and was told to wait for a letter with a 6 digit number to be sent to me, this would take 2 weeks, as the letter was coming form USA. The letter never came, we contacted Paypal and was informed if we faxed a utility bill with our name and address on it, it would then would be verified. We did this to be told 6 days later that it was not good enough and they would still not be able to verify our account and release the money. I have since faxed 4 other utility bills to them and several stiff letters of complaint about holding my funds, but I never get a response from them, it also appears to be impossiblity to speak to anyone in human form as they are now based in Luxembourg and do not operate as a bank or seem to be regulated by any financial authority.

The worst thing is I have probably paid out £200 in postage costs for all the things I have sold, that it has left me now so strapped for cash that I am about to default on my mortgage payment this month, I am so frustrated as I have £1,300 sitting in a Paypal account that I am unable to access even though I have complied with all there requests.

Does anyone have any idea where to go from here?

Many Thanks

Might be best to ask this question on the eBay board :)

3 people reply at the same time... What are the chances! Alternative numbers to the 0870 one here...
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

  • Disco inferrno, welcome to moneysaving,I'm sorry to hear about your plight, but I think you moght be better posting your problem on the ebay board, which is located with the shopping threads, ie near to shop til you drop, and quick grab it while you can. There are people on the ebay board some that run businesses on ebay and are really knowledgeable and I think they might be able to help you more than us here.

Good luck and I hope all goes well!

Phone paypal, get a real person and ask them exactly what you need to do, don't be fobbed off, be persistent.

We had this same thing on a thread a few weeks back and the person phoned paypal and got the mess sorted out quite quickly and all funds released.
