ok peeps, i've had a result and found a direct dial number to one of paypal's legal compliance guy's in surrey.

The number is ..020 8605 3105 so when you have served your pre legal warning to them ring this guy every day and give him the count down, 6 days left-no excuses, 5 days left - no excuses etc etc.

Don't bother ringing the customer service number there is no one there with the authority or inclination to help you.

    Good luck.

Amen to that. Just had an excruciating hour of my life which I will never see back. They have now mysteriously "lost" the second set of documents I faxed them. The supervisor also admitted that she didn't know under what legislation they were withholding my money but she didn't appear to care either.

Cyril - You are a genius - Thank You So Much - I e-mailed your letter to them this morning and an hour later they lifted my funds. Yay.

    I appreciate it so much.

    Kind Regards,

it's a scam they pull, three times my account has been frozen under this imaginary legal requirement, 3 times i uploaded the docs, 3 times nothing happened, 3 times i rang them, 3 times i was told to fax the docs, 3 times nothing happened after i faxed the docs, 3 times i rang back, 3 times i was told they could not find the docs and could i send them again by fax, so 3 times i faxed the docs twice and it was a mix of pre legal warnings, issuing court papers and pestering on the phone that released my money.

Now is it me or was there a pattern there up until the, how i got the money released bit??

It is alleged by some financial experts that paypal make most of their profit by filtering all their users money through a high interest bank account that pays out interest annually based on the average balance of the account. This is unproven so therefore merely speculation but apparently if it was proven would amount to taking illegal loans from it's customers.

This may well not be true, but if it was it would explain their desire to limit accounts so routinely and i think they should at least be investigated to establish why they limit accounts so frequently, note the comparable lack of account freezes on alternatives to paypal and the English company pppay.com which are ebids basic replica of paypal who are regulated by the FSA who also don't limit accounts after a set amount is received under any EU Anti money laundering legislation as long as you verified the account pretty much the same way you verify a paypal account (bank deposits). Are pppay.com, an FSA regulated and approved company breaking the law then? or paypal lying to us?

Pleased to report that account now restored (didn't have to resort to cyril's letter). Finally.

Excellent news, pestering them works most of the time i find but on occasion they need a little bit of pressure.

If i encounter a limitation now i work on the basis of they have 2 weeks to remove the limitation from the day after i submit docs, during which time i pester the life out of them, not asking them but telling them they only have 2 weeks to remove the limitation.

After two weeks pre-legal notice is served with between 7 and 14 days notice, depending on how likely i think they are to release the money, during which time i pester them some more, now, usually they release the funds during this time but i have had to serve court papers a few times.

I have also tried just doing nothing and waiting for them to remove the limitation, last time i did that they left my account frozen for 3 months despite me submitting all the docs.

hi, im encountering a problem with paypal at the moment similar to these and wondered if anyone could help me.... according to them i am 150 off the limitation for the year and they are asking me to set up direct debit thing.... however my account linked is a savings account. I rang them to ask what to do and they said add current account... i then tried this but they said it was linked to another paypal account. i had a different one about 6 yrs ago so it could be linked to that but im sure i closed it down. they then tell me i need to add credit/ debit card which i do not have , they told me to go to bank and get one... i told them bank wont give me one and they said that it has to be a credit card or debit card or do the direct debit??? so 45 mins on the phone to someone i couldnt understand left me in the same situation as before i rang. If anyone can help me i would be grateful

Why drag tis up from May? Your better off starting a new thresd if its not related.

As for your problem It looks like they have outlined your choices can you cancel the original Paypal account linked to your current account?
