Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Sunday 17th May. This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly, but if not, it's not a problem.

Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Daily Threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning. Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good!

Morning OS friends! hi.gif

Happy anniversary for the other day Mr & Mrs Haribo!
nic1 - we use the frozen fish from Lidls for our fish pies and it's delicious and so much cheaper.
Looby - Hope your son is feeling a bit better now.
Tru - Awww, such a shame about poor Pink the ex-chick.
Aussie - Sorry to hear about your locket
Peyton - Great to have you back!
kjsam - glad to hear your snake is eating again - wow they can live a long time without eating!

Beautiful weather yesterday so I spent 5 hours in the garden... potted up my cabbages and leeks and broccolli that my OH picked up somewhere. It's all very well but I have never grown them before and have just about run out of garden! Have put the leeks in a potato patio sack so hoping that will work! I also potted up my strawberry tower and two hanging baskets (one with strawberries and one with a tomato plant!) My other half put together the plastic greenhouse we are borrowing and it's nearly twice the size of the one we had which is fabulous. Just have to work out where to put them permanantly as right now they are on the crazy paving right where we sit and it tends to block the view a little!

Am hoping Tristan will log on but haven't heard from him for days so it's a slim hope. I have some emails to plough through so the time won't be wasted, though I am a bit tired, didn't want to get up when the alarm went off but it will be worth it if he logs on. coffee-n-pc.gif

Roast pork for dinner today with all the trimmings - can't wait.
Warm gentle grouphug.giffor all - have a peaceful and loving Sunday.

Morning Diva and all who follow

I'm up at such an ungodly hour cos I seriously over indulged on the voddie last night whilst watching the Eurovision and I've got a right meaty hangover now.Self inflicted I know so dont expect any sympathy.I'll get on the wii fit in a bit and try and run some of it off:D

We were supposed to be camping this weekend in the Lakes but the flaming weather on Friday was so appalling we didnt go.Its been sunshine and showers ever since so I'm glad we didnt go as theres not much to do in the Lake District with four kids when it rains.Oh well we took the kids to Blackpool yesterday and theyre going out again today so hope they have a good time anyway

On a domestic front the house looks like a bombsite as all the camping gear is still strewn around so will have to spend a couple of hours this morning sorting out the cupboard that it gets stored in and tidy it all away.I cooked a load of food to take with us and we've been munching our way through that this weekend so not much been done in the kitchen other than reheating but I need to get some bread made today. The dining room carpet could do with a shampoo too so another task for today I think

Diva-Hope Tristan gets in touch soon it must be awful with no news

DD&D- I'm worried you dont seem to have posted for ages and I notice people are posting sympathy comments.I hope nothing awful has happened

pen-pin-sorry to hear you've had a rough couple of days healthwise and hope your OH is feeling better too

Tru-Shame about Pink I hope she didn't suffer

Well I'm off to try and shed my headache either by exercise or paracetamol:D

    Morning everyone

Diva - not sure who Tristan is but I hope he gets in touch as you sound quite worried.
Ravylesley - OUCH! I can't cope with hangovers at the best of times but to run it off on the Wii fit? You must be a mad! I'd be reaching for the paracetamol and lots and lots of sweet tea. Hope the running works for you!

H suggested fish for tea tonight. I can eat cod and tuna but it doesn't get my juices going the way meat does :D
I'd much rather have chicken and roast tatties so will see what he wants when he finally drags himself out of bed! Had a mini cooked dinner for tea last night made from left over beef (cooked in the SC) and some mash and veggies. All frozen so a lovely tasty dinner ready made! I think I would flatline if I didn't have my freezer! It's just sooooooo useful.
Went to the family fun day yesterday but about 15 stalls cancelled because the weather wasn't going to be too good. Shame really because apart from some brief showers it was lovely and hot when the sun came out. Still it was worth the trip over there because DS got to meet Iron Man! OK it was a bloke in a very good costume but he's 3 and a half so he doesn't know that! He was besotted and kept going up to him and shyly shaking Iron Man's hand. It was all he could talk about and I think it made his year! Got some pics to get printed so he's got a reminder of when they met.

My veggies seem to be suffering somewhat. I planted them out a couple of weeks ago and I think I should have covered them sooner with the poly tunnel and fleece. Its my first attempt and the plants were doing really well in my pots in my little plastic greenhouse but now I seem to have been able to kill them off. Anyway they are now covered so hopefully they will revive.
My stash of reduced bread has now gone so will need to break out the bread maker again. When Mr S are selling loaves for 55p (made in their instore bakery) it's too good to miss.
Have a good Sunday everyone, OS or not.

    Morning all

Day off today and I can't even lie in - too used to waking early! It doesn't really matter though because I love this time of day, it's so peaceful with OH & DD2 still asleep and it gives me time to do things without interruption. So, here I am, drinking coffee and spending some quality time browsing the forums:D

Bread-making and meal-planning to do today and need to look for a new microwave.
Am thinking of getting a combi. Does anyone here rate these at all or would I be better off with just a standard microwave?

Diva - hope you hear from Tristan soon
Lesley - hope your headache soon improves;)

Going to look for threads with advice on microwaves.

    Have a good day everyone:smiley:

Morning. Showery start, looks like we had quite a bit of rain last night. We enjoyed a nice night out at freinds with home made curry and stuff. Excellent. We then talked about teeth as 2 of our other friends are dentists and we now know which are best tooth pastes and why diet coke is the worst drink ever for your teeth.
BBQ for lunch today and more entertaining as folks coming over from church.
Loads to get ready in a short space of time, so must dash.
    Have a nice day..... cheers

    morning

MSD wow you were busy yesterday in the garden, it rained all day in south yorkshire so no gardening for me

N9eav I remember DD2 doing an experiment at school regarding diet coke. they put a tooth in a glass , one filled with milk one with water and one with the coke, after a little while they went to have a look and the tooth in the diet coke had completely disolved , they also did a check on how many fillings the kids had had (7 yr olds ) and my DD and 1 other boy were the only children without any fillings at all , its shocking

    Aussie how is DH?

    my plans for today?

need to clean up after our impromptu eurovision / britains got talent party lol , seems to be a lot of empty bottles, no hangover though :D

lunch will be toad in the hole with whoopsied cumberland sausage mash and veg

    DD1 will be revising
DD2 will be trying to get on everyones nerves

try and catch up with the washing if it stays dry

    (((hugs))) to all that need

    have a great day

    Morning :hello:

Aussie, how is Mr Aussie doing? hug.gif

We've saved the glass from the old kitchen window, I'll make a cold frame out of it. I can't think of a use for the upvc frame, it's too big (5ft x nearly 4ft) so we'll take that down the tip later. Please don't suggest a use, we've already cut it up :D

The chooks are learning quickly - last night I said the usual 'goodnight girlies' as I opened the top of the run and they trotted straight up the ramp to bed :T

I haven't planned anything for today. Mr tru is home and he always messes up any plans, so apart from the tip trip, I'll just see how it goes

    Morning All

N9eav - I had a good dentist when I was younger who told me years ago that low cal drinks are the worst ones for teeth, dont think diet coke was around then it was 1 cal.

Sun has just started shining in Essex today so that is... :j Had a little lie in this morning as had a late night so gonna jump in the shower in a min.

Weather was nice yesterday so have planted 7 marrow plants, I love marrow but if they all do well we will be overrun.

MSD - we also have roast pork for today, gonna have caulifower cheese, peas and carrots with it. Have to coat the caulifower in cheese for the kids to eat it. Fry up for lunch.

Will definately get my baking done today, also some stuff on ebay & all the ironing will be done by tonight :j

Hopefully will get time to take the dogs for a walk along the seawall later.

Am thinking of taking a trip to Columbia Road market soon - we are after some passion flower which I cant seem to get round here and it sounds like a nice day out - anyone been?

    Have a lovely Sunday

    Morning everyone :hello:

Thanks for the good wishes Betheebe not sure where the party & birthday came from though:confused:.

BM on with a loaf for DS to take back with him:rolleyes:, DS's washing eventually dry. Sun looks like it is trying to get through:D Will do some ironing shortly. Half Leg of Lamb (DS's favourite) thawed nicely for dinner with all trimmings. Treat us to half price Jersey Royals;). DS has been revising his CV and sending it off, as due to the downturn he has had to take a 14% pay cut, which puts him back to where he was almost two years ago, but they leave his salary, and take it as reductions so now he has to pay pension and student loan on an amount he is not getting, plus things have gone up, so feels its time to try to market. Living away from home makes it hard, though looking at the capital and not back here, as there are very few oppportunities around here for him.

Got the knitting needles out again last night, I have been knitting for our new DGNephew, and thought it may be prudent to make something for the gorgeous DGNeice(8) so she doesn't feel left out, not that she ever is as she is our only DGNeice (well we do have another one but never seen her so can't spoil her) and we only had DS so I sometimes can't resist when seeing girls clothes, especially when they are reduced and Blue X too;) and she and her Mum & Dad are appreciative.

Both my fellas as zzzzzzzzzzzzing so will decide what we are doing when they awaken. Ahh!!! Bliss.

WS - If that is a Bartholin one, go the GP tomorrow. Been there got the t-shirt.

Pen-Pin and anyone else not 100% or would like one :grouphug:

    Take care DG

    Morning all,
Just caught up on y/days thread and have to say that I would rather put Charlotte on the activity playmat than in front of a tv screen. I have lots of toys hanging within her reach, all with different feels and sounds, she loves the book that crackles. I spend time on the floor with her and encourage her to reach out and touch them, helps with co-ordination, I may come over as old fashioned but I don't want to put her in front of a tv. I just know that when she is older we will be doing arty things, making masks, cards, mud pies, allsorts of things, can't wait to make cakes with her. :D I think babies and especially todlers love one to one contact.
TV channels for babies  she's only 9 wks old, well 10 wks tomorrow.
Can't wait to see her tomorrow.
KAZZAW, thanks for the info re- ITNG. With your help I'm determined to be a street cred Granny :rotfl:
DIVA, Is there no one you can contact to get news of Tristan?

Dinner today is roast leg of lamb studded with garlic & rosemary, half price from S/field. Roast parsnips, pots and onions. Steamed sweetheart cabbage, broccoli and cauli. Must make yorkies, DH loves them with every roast.

    (((((((( to all in need))))))))))

OOpppss :o sorry DONNY-GAL I read AUSSIE's post then yours and got a bit mixed up. Should have read AUSSIE enjoy the party.
