I think the bank is so annoyed that you dared to pay off your mortgage that they have hired an electrical/mechanical/weather hitman to teach you a lesson.
Perhaps thats as well you donated to the charity - you'll have to get some good karma come your way.
On a serious note - the electrics OK?

Yes, electrics are fine thankfully. Shower has been playing up for a few months now and was doing exactly the same as it's predecessor so we knew it was on the way out. Not worth getting a repairman out...last time we were £55 for a 2 minute job and the shower gave up the ghost completely shortly after.

I'm going to go buy a real cheapie to tide us over. The bathroom is to get overhauled (again!) but we can't afford it at the mo' so I'll go buy a fifty quid job that'll get us wet and that'll do for a wee while.

Edi.......thanks for the good wishes but I think we need industrial strength vibes right now.

Instead of trying to pay off our cc's we're now going to have to get a loan or something to buy OH a new car. (Not new new....IYSWIM) :undecided Now it's beginning to look like we should have left the mortgage going and paid the cc's off instead but the cc's were only at 1.9% and I expected to get them paid off or at the least reduced to almost nil. I didn't expect all this to happen though.

What's that saying about the best laid plans of mice and men? Or something. :rotfl:

Do you live in a hard water area - we used to get through no end of showers and washing machines, then we spent a few hundred on a water softener and they've been fine ever since, also use less washing powder, washing up liquid, soap/shampoo etc as it lathers up much better.

    Hi all,
Rang HSBC yesterday and put up my monthly payments. Only 20% of exsisting payments, but still £200. Also putting £500 into savings.
Was going to do some DIY with it but now I'm quite into the idea of just paying the lump sum off the mortgage at the end of the fixed rate period...its sooo confusing.
Anyway have signed up for there internet banking thingy so I can now see the mortgage online whenever I want. Of course I keep signing in and hoping its gone down!
Its also less than I thought, just £160k. Also because we remrtgaged and consolidated other debt, its in 3 accounts.
One at just over £17k, the other at about £49k and the £94k.
So my plan of action is to snowball. So pay off the £17k one first and then work on paying the next one off. I'm pretty sure I'll be able to do that once the fixed rate is over.
Does that make sense to everyone else?

Yep - perfect! The easiest one to crack is the 17K, but are they all at the same rate? if not it would make better sense to overpay on the one with the highest interest rate.

Lol.....my nickname used to be the 'flying kiwi' cos I ate so many of them and I usually ate them on the run cos I was always in a rush.

Well done Frankie...onwards and upwards. :D

No, h_q......we actually live in a soft water area. I'm sure the shower we had was just useless and it's replacement was the same model but with a different name, so I'm not surprised it went the same way.

Got a new one today and spent the afternoon installing it....needless to say none of the connections matched up, that would just be too easy. However we can now get wet again. Hurrah!

OH has suggested we might be able to get an ABS computer from a parts dealer..... like a scrap yard thing I think. If a car like ours has been scrapped, the computer might be able to be used. If we could do that cheaply and keep the car going for another 6 months to a year then that would be ideal. As it stands, the car wont pass an MOT and although the brakes work...it no longer has ABS. It's not feasible to get an ABS computer from Renault themselves, it's far too costly.

This moneysaving lark is hard. :D

Do we just bag up the money and ask to put it into our accounts at the bank/building society? No mortgage for me yet but the bank account will always welcome the "savings". Do I need to count it up first, to fill in the paying-in form, and then let them count it up at the branch?

You need to get some money bags and put it in as it says on the bags, for example £20 in £1 coins or £5 in 20p coins, £1 in 1p OR 2ps - not mixed, the bank will give you the bags free of charge. Some place a limit on the number of bags you can take in at one time.
