I already have a "small change" pig, didn't think of fattenening her up for the mortgage (yes shes a girl, called Daisy May shes pink with a blue daisy on her side and she may help me save hence the name). Its a great idea, thanks.Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0

In response to kiwi88, think my hedgehog will be called either Henry or Hoggy, and yes its for my mortgage.
Not looking forward to the rreception at the bank when i go and take in the coins tho, judging by other ops responses.

Anyway, since I came across this thread a week or so ago (I'm loving this thread, in fact so much so that I've just registered for the first time on the forum so that I can post on it!), I have been bagging up all the loose change around the house to make a start for when I get my pig (cow). I filled 9 bags and went along to the bank (Halifax) with them yesterday. First I saw a sign on the desk saying only 5 bags of coins allowed per day (I'd expected that) but the reception I got from the cashier amazed me.
welcome Pat.. and dizzy, I guess
what a bizarre policy for the bank to have.. I took in £101 in bags of change the other month and my mother takes in a few hundred pound at a time as my stepdad is a window cleaner he is paid in change, quite literally from the change jar sometimes!!.. We best stick with the TSB!! lol
I wonder if they started that policy after Sainsbury got their machine in??? those machines also take a percentage of your money as well.. that helps even less!!
I hope you find someone less.. silly next time.. I'd have said 'well we aren't supposed to but I'll do it this once'.. every time you came in!! lolLB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Excellent thread, friends think I am mad but I am sure they will be shortly visiting me and depositing their pennies in MY mortgage pig, for novelty value alone.... Just one question, where does one obtain a mortgage pig (preferably without doling out any dosh for it)?:j0

You can get one from The Donkey Sanctuary gift catalogue at:

With a little dosh a lot of the pound shops have piggies. However, if you sign up with www.pigsback.co.uk you'll soon amass enough points for a free one. My peefer (p for pig) is one, he's lovely as you can see how full he is and he holds around £40 - 50.
Or make a papier mache one!!!!!
So, now that's sorted you need a name!A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Hi all, liked the idea of all this so I have just got a tardis bank!
I know, I know it's not a pig, but it does make the cool tardis vanishing noise when I've put my money in. Being a big kid at heart I've already put more money in it than I would in a pig, just to hear the noise...takes me back to my youth'1% at a time' Member - #197

Hi pigpen,
REALLY? I hadn't realised this "5-bags-per-day" policy was just a Halifax thing, I'd assumed it was a policy that all banks had. I'm off to my local branch of the TSB to investigate further and open a mortgage-cow account. Thanks for the info!:T0
