Have you a name for hedgehog? It's tradition you see :rotfl: I have a pig named Percy but we have lots of different animals and names here in the penWill he/she be a morgage/debt/savings hog? A pound a day, that's a great idea and a large acorn worth £365 a year.

Hi Guys...I love this thread! Just thought I'd let you know that we started our Mortgage Pig this month. He's a freebie one from Pigsback and is called "Scratchy" (after pork scratchings). We already over-pay about £70.00 per month on our mortgage as we have an endowment still running despite moving to a repayment mortgage a few years back. The endowment should mature in 2019 (only 12 years to go!) and will hopefully make £40,000 to go straight off the mortgage. We also overpay a few pounds on the mortgage directly as I always round it up. However, we just so want to get rid of this huge burden that we have started feeding him everyday...even if it is just a few pennies. He should be full by the end of the month...haven't counted him at all so have no idea how much is in there! Will update the signature when we make our first payment! Thanks guys...0

Just won my cow on ebay - OK, not strictly a pig, but can I join the piggy club anyway? She's very cute and I think I'm going to call her Pat.
Anyway, since I came across this thread a week or so ago (I'm loving this thread, in fact so much so that I've just registered for the first time on the forum so that I can post on it!), I have been bagging up all the loose change around the house to make a start for when I get my pig (cow). I filled 9 bags and went along to the bank (Halifax) with them yesterday. First I saw a sign on the desk saying only 5 bags of coins allowed per day (I'd expected that) but the reception I got from the cashier amazed me.
She told me that the Sainsburys next door has a coin machine that counts all your change and issues you with a voucher to that value, and tried to get me to take them there. Very nice, but Sainsburys vouchers aren't going to help me pay off my mortgage! She then grudgingly weighed them (all correct, took about 20 seconds) and moaned that they have nowhere to store them.
My issue is that if supermarkets can install machines that count your change in seconds and issue vouchers, why can't banks do the same, but deposit the total in your account? It amazed me how much the cashier tried to discourage me from depositing My money in My account! And I have it all to do again later with the other 4 bags!
Anyway, whinging over, I'm keeping my eyes peeled for the postman. Can't wait to start feeding Pat!0 -
Welcome dizzy_blond (and Cow Pat!!!!) its amazing how much the loose change mounts up in such a short space of time.
Strange the bank worker didnt want to take your money, sounds like she was having a bad day!!!0
