Right.. more concerted effort needed here.. my usual 'overpayment' a month is a grand 43p (basically rounded up to the nearest £100) So I have decided I will routinely add an extra £50 to my payments each month. My piggy money is going on more pressing debts at the moment, but once they are gone I will be able to do better in the mortgage dept.

I just got my statement and was made aware we actually owe £15000 more than I thought we did!!!

Paid off an extra £15 today from Quidco.. never had it so I'll not miss it!

I need to phone the mortgage company tomorrow to see how much I am allowed to over pay each year, I'm sure it is only £1200.

  • Hi
We adopted a mortgage frog this weekend which the kids have named 'Hoppy'. They are obsessed with feeding him and as we had already empty the spare change pot in we decided to check handbags and coat pockets ~ he is a little heavier now.

I was in Poundstop today, and they had a collection of large piggy banks called 'The Bankers'... the pigs are standing up and dressed like rappers (including a girl pig yapping on a cell phone). They are somewhere around 30 cm high and cost £3.

  • I am checking ebay for my own pig as we speak!

Granted I have only skimmed through this post, but if no-one has suggested it yet... make sure you work out just how much a £50 a month overpayment will actually save you long term! You'll be suprised!!! :D

catowen.. I paid £15 quidco money yesterday.. and I recall someone here who paid a HUGE £6 payment once.. every penny helps as they say!

I rang the building society today and they said I am only allowed to pay 20% of my monthly payment as overpayment each month.. £119.. knew I was right to confirm it. I'm making the £53 routine and anything else is a bonus.

DH is off to arrange a pay rise today, or else he is applying for a job in Cambridge *gulp* I think I may find that super-scary!!

  • I'll be counting up all the coins in Mabel the Pig and Jean-Paul the Frog at the weekend, then banking and making the first overpayment of many so I find myself getting quite excited at the prospect! I have wondered recently if I need more of a life, but then I visit this thread and feel quite normal  :o

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Lotta.. we must all be just as sad then! I get really excited when I get to pay the bills.. and live for the end of the month when I can pay LOTS of bills rather than the 2-3 I pay each week.. DH tells me I am a geek lol.. but I keep a roof over his head and food on his plate!

Cat.. it was maybe you I was thinking of.. I know I would spend it so I pay it asap too.. it is really hard though trying to pay off debts, clear the mortgage AND keep on top of all the current expenditure.. like food and clothing and bills.. and why do the children grow just when you are completley skint? I'm saving for school uniform as well for September (ds1's uniform was £400 last year and will be the same this year no doubt!!)
