I took a week off near the beginning when I was bleeding and put on bedrest, but other than that I've worked at home more often but put in the same amount of hours.

Some of my co-workers have apparently been commenting that they rarely see me, but I pointed out that I was off on annual leave for two weeks in February to get married, then at four conferences in March, then in the UK with my grandmother for most of April so it was not surprising. It was more that it was none of their damned business where I work so long as it gets done.

I have to say that just as some people use pregnancy as an excuse for a bit of a skive, people also look out for you skiving more when you are pregnant. I get the 'not been around much this week' when I have been at my usual district meetings, training etc......

I was so surprised to find that. Our departmental secretary in particular was keeping track of my presence and absence, and it was only because I was demonstrably elsewhere and my boss knew where I was that she didn't escalate it. I came in one day for my mail and for the few things I needed to be there to do and she made a point of asking if I had "permission" to be working at home.

She has a bit of a reputation for getting into other people's business, and she really dislikes that she's the most junior of the three secretaries, but that she was keeping score of every time I left early or came in late (I'm a researcher; sometimes I don't turn up till 3pm because I've been testing patients till gone midnight then playing with the results till the first tram in the morning, and then I have to do it again the next night) horrified me. I think she might have complained to my boss, because she was much chastened last week when I saw her, and he's happy for me to work from my bed so long as it gets done and I turn up for the required meetings.

When I was pregnant with DS2, my work was funny about it. I had to tell them fairly soon, as I was working shifts and having horrendous morning sickness. The minute they knew I was pregnant, they told me no more shifts (although they paid me the shift differential still), offered me regular days and hours, referred me to the occupational health office to see if there was any special arrangements I would need to help me be more comfortable. When the SPD showed up, they mentioned that it might be good for me to cut my hours (although they still paid me for full time) so I wasn't working quite so many hours per day (went from 9hrs per day to 6hrs), and also suggested (by my supervisor who was also pregnant) that I go ahead and attend the aquanatal classes even though they were on my regular work day, and just take a half day off every week so I could attend the class and get ready for work afterwards without rushing. When I had to finally stop work (earlier than planned) due to the SPD, they were great about it - even checked back with me by email (my supervisor) a few times and by text to make sure I was doing okay. (But then, this was the same employer when just under 2yrs later I had a couple miscarriages, insisted I take 3 wks off with pay afterwards as they wanted to make sure I was okay both emotionally and physically before i returned to work.) I was worried that other coworkers would think I was missing far too much work or working too few hours, but I was assured by a number of people that this was standard for pregnancy at this place and nobody had a problem with it. It was a high stress job and I was told that they felt the job was stressful enough without additional pregnancy issues making things more difficult for employees.

my boss asked me in front of a room full of people to do something so I sat at the computer and started doing it. 2 mins later everyone left leaving all their crap to clear away - she said, give me a hand with this and I said give me a minute. She said 'Your pregnant not dying' to which I replied 'You've just asked me to do something so what do you want me to do? This or that?'

Ah, I don't work there now. I unfortunately left their employ when DH & I moved here to Gloucestershire. Now I'm a SAHM so I can't miss work LOL - it's always here.

I was quite pleased not to have had any time off. But then I started worrying that she knew something i didn't and I would end up wearing myself out. Probably doesn't help that now I'm worrying about working until 4 days before bubs is due. And I'm doing everything cos there is no-one to help and I'm scared that suddenly I'm going to burn out and collapse.xxx

    Whereabouts are you Harley?

So, hypothetically, if one had a cervix that was 5cm thick, and then two weeks later it was 4cm thick, would be reasonable to assume that cervix thinning would continue at a regular rate?

How thin does it get before it starts dilating?
Not a clue but I think the way the MW described how ur cervix gets ready for labour was that it would be about 1 or 2 cm thick when it started opening.
She demonstrated it by showing the normal cervix as when ur palms are together like when u pray and then moving the heels of ur hands apart until just ur finger tips are touching and then ur hands are not touching anymore - Does that make sense??
Has anyone gone to a Mothercare store to order lots of items, taken out one of their 10% off cards and then had it delivered? If so, was the service any good and how long did it take to arrive?
    Thinking of doing this Sat.
    Bearx
I returned a mattress to store (was gonna use a donated cot but when it arrived I hated it :o) so got new mattress and ordered cot for delivery it arrived around 4 days later HTH (although it makes no real difference to ordering over the phone or website AFAIK)

Harley - Sounds like ur colleague is taking the mick, Yes I have found my 2nd pregnancy much harder than my first but if I was working I doubt I would have had that much time off - probably would have needed some leeway on my start time while I had MS and I was struck by that hideous flu bug before Christmas but anything else I would work through.
In my 1st preg I arranged with work that I could come in up to 30mins late as long as I made the time up as I always threw up at the time I needed to leave the house but besides ante natal appointments I only had 5 days off (at GPs advice) which was due to a seriously bad migraine - 4 of those 5 days I spent in bed with the curtains closed bored out of my mind because TV/PC/magazines/books all hurt my eyes :(
