Elle, I'm thinking of you. I'm so sorry it's not going the way you'd want. I wish there was something I could do.

Thanks to you too Glam. I'm seeing the Midwife again on Thurs so I'll try to remember to ask.

Can I ask, have many of you had much time off work? I haven't had any yet, for which I am very grateful, but my colleague who is approx 33 wks seems to be off for roughly a week a month. Generally with colds, backache, sore throat. We work with a load of men and they have started making comments.

I think what I am asking is are these sorts of things much worse when you can't take any tablets to make them better or is she just enjoying the excuse to get away from the chaos for a while. She is on her second child so maybe she knows something I don't and is just making sure she doesn't over do it, and should I be doing something similar?

sorry think that turned into a bit of a ramble.

Nicki, thankyou xx I know what you mean (well, as well as I can understand at the minute).. We keep saying that it's not what we had planned and not what we expected but we love him and will care for him no matter what. We can / will deal with whatever will comes our way with regard to caring for him, but we also have to think of his quality of life, both in say 3, 16 or 34 years time, and now. He's got multiple organ damage and they don't know how much his heart can take and if it will withstand "aggressive resucitation" as they call it. Time will tell.. We're prepared to deal with anything in the future, he just needs to get there first.

I'm not working at the moment but with my other two I was, and although I had all the usual pregnancy problems, including bad spd with number 1, I didn't have more time off work than usual. It is my pet hate to be honest when women do use pregnancy as an excuse to take time off work, or have changes made to their working conditions when they don't need it, as it makes life so much harder for women who are genuinely ill when pregnant or genuinely need adjustments made.

I know of a couple of women who have taken excessive time off with two different pregnancies with the same employer, for quite minor complaints, always pitching it at just under the level where they could be compelled to take their maternity leave early, and to be honest it is quite clear that it is a calculated attempt to get additional time off work on enhanced pay and preserve their full maternity pay rights. You also get those who demand the most favourable shifts at work/cushiest duties from the moment the peestick turns blue, when really they only need these concessions much later on in their pregnancies.

I'm all for women who suffer severe morning sickness getting some leeway, or for women being able to take time off work without worrying if their blood pressure is sky high or for their antenatal appointments, and if something is genuinely causing you a risk or pain at work, then this should be resolved, but it does all women (not just pregnant ones) no favours at all if bosses are confronted with women who are obviously blatantly taking the pee and demanding things they don't need, or taking time off unfairly when its not needed, because they have the Get out of Jail free card marked pregnancy.

    Rant over...

I was quite pleased not to have had any time off. But then I started worrying that she knew something i didn't and I would end up wearing myself out. Probably doesn't help that now I'm worrying about working until 4 days before bubs is due. And I'm doing everything cos there is no-one to help and I'm scared that suddenly I'm going to burn out and collapse.

Oh I'm such a prat, I'm sure I'll be fine. Just in the middle of the night my mind starts thinking too much. I bet I'm just dreaming up problems that will never happen.

On the plus side, I've picked up two test paint pots today so I hope to be decorating soon, before it gets too hot. Now the cot has arrived I'd love to see it all finished and looking pretty.
