On the subject of time off, I had two days for a dodgy tum after a curry - normally I would have just taken Imodium and gone in, so really only stayed off cos I couldn't take anything for it. Had uber bad morning sickness on the second day, not sure if it was related but I felt drained so stayed off. Other than that, I only had time off for appointments (usual midwife ones, plus two scans and two visits to the consultant). Went in late maybe about six times due to sickness hitting me as I was walking out the door, but it probably all added up to less than two hours lateness in all.

And on that lovely note, I'm off to see the gorgeous cause of my morning sickness! :D TTFN ladies xx

    Thanks Nicki

That is pretty much what I was thinking she was doing, and to be honest what the guys we work with were saying. In all honesty, we have it easy. We are sat down most of the day, there is air con for when it gets really hot (my main reason for wanting to work up to my date if I'm honest - it'll be a damn site cooler in the office than at home) and the work, whilst pretty busy is not too much to handle. I did try to defend her earlier when they were being a bit mean, she left yesterday with a headache and didn't come in today, but then I started to wonder if she was just swinging the lead and was I making myself look an idiot by sticking up for her.

I'm not her biggest fan to be honest so I'm not even sure why I stuck up for her in the first place.

Thanks for agreeing with me though, nice to have someone else's opinion just in case I was being a bit of a cow.

With DS1 I was not working and told by the job centre not to even bother trying

With DS2 I was at work for 2 weeks after I found out before being signed off with hyper emesis then SPD. But I was less keen to go back anyway due to bullying from my manager, he was such a prat, trying to cut my hours and basically get me out the door.

Does college count as work? Only missed the week when I put my back out and a few afternoons when my BP was very high.

I had a week off when I collapsed at home at 3 months and was told to rest for a week and then 1 day when my back was so sore I could barely get out of bed and I work an hours drive away from home !!
Other than that, I cut down my hours in the far away office and worked more in my closer office to make things a bit easier on my back, but was nearly 7 months when I did that

I was quite pleased not to have had any time off. But then I started worrying that she knew something i didn't and I would end up wearing myself out. Probably doesn't help that now I'm worrying about working until 4 days before bubs is due. And I'm doing everything cos there is no-one to help and I'm scared that suddenly I'm going to burn out and collapse.

Oh I'm such a prat, I'm sure I'll be fine. Just in the middle of the night my mind starts thinking too much. I bet I'm just dreaming up problems that will never happen.

On the plus side, I've picked up two test paint pots today so I hope to be decorating soon, before it gets too hot. Now the cot has arrived I'd love to see it all finished and looking pretty.

I think it really depends on the pregnancy. I have had one and a half days off so far with this one (no time off sick with this employer before I was pregnant). One for morning sickness, and the half was this week when I just felt so washed out and light headed. I've not taken any time for appointments as I've managed to make these on days off or after work. If I need to I will, but not just for the sake of it.

I know that some people at work look at me and think I am taking the mickey with some of the things my risk assessment says I mustn't do, but I have an existing back problem which means I end up in so much pain I can hardly walk or go up stairs by the end of the day. I have been to the doctor about this, and short of signing me off work (which I really don't want), there is nothing they can do but suggest things to avoid to minimise it. I can't really be bothered to explain all this to everyone at work, so I guess to some people I just look lazy, or like I'm using my pregnancy as an excuse. But to be honest that is their problem!

At the same time, i am with Nicki in that it drives me mad when people do just use pregnancy as an excuse at work. But I guess it is a fine line because I wouldn't push myself now in the way that I would before as I don't want to do baby any harm, and I am finding it much harder to bounce back like I usually would. I was always one to work 6-7 days a week, sometimes 12+ hours a day- I just couldn't do that now!

Ooh, Harley, tester paint pots! I migt have to get me some of those this weekend and get OH to try them out in the baby's room!

Elle- give Rhys a big hug from all the MSE pg ladies!

elle - whatever I can think of to say sounds trite so here's just positive healthy wishes for Rhys and you and your family.

OH and I went to consultant today to discuss the high combined risk results. We have decided against cvs but not at this stage completely against an amnio. The consultant and midwife were stupendously good, explaining everything at our level and not at all in a patronising way and depsite this still not meaning that little one still has a high risk of a number of things but we felt so reassured. We must have been in there for the best part of an hour and I was so wiped out afterwards I very guiltily rang work to say I couldn't make it in - got back home and promptly fell asleep for 3 hours! I am really going to have to pull my finger out from now especially as the hospital is a good 90 mins from the office so my time off for appointments ends up being half a day at a time, even if I am relishing not working!

OH doing overtime tonight - really must get dinner ready for when he gets in given that I've done naff all really today!

Glad you are feeling a bit more optimistic Always. Hope everything goes well.

I have to tell you from a friend of mine, who had a 1:30 risk of downs when she was 20, that her amnio came back clear. Although she didn't want it in the first place, she was bullied into it by her then partner and mother. Just do what you think is right for you.
