surprised at Center Parcs prices!

I got quite excited today as my mother (78) and I decided that maybe we would go to Center Parcs with my 2 kids (16 and 12), so I went straight online to look at prices for August, cheapest was nearly £1500 self catering! Unbelievable really.

So, rather despondent, I decided we'd better think again, but now I've got the holiday bug, I wondered if anyone could suggest a cheaper alternative, I looked at Haven and they were showing a similar price. I suppose the trouble is we would all need separate rooms, or 3 rooms and living room, with the ages involved as no one would want to share a room.

Thanks for any suggestions, not looking for non stop entertainment at all, just somewhere nice and relaxing, specially for my mother.

If you hang on in there you will possibly be lucky and someone will be along with a code for a discount on Holiday Parks.

I really wouldnt call Haven nice and relaxing !!!! But brilliant for the kids.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

    ooh ok!

Yeh Haven was great when the kids were young and their dad was with us, this will be a different kind of holiday, hopefully peaceful for my mother, who hasn't been that well.

  • Try Hoseasons, We've been on loads of their UK holidays, theres lively holiday camp type places at seaside, to quiet lodges in woods with hot tubs etc.

We considered Centre Parks in wiltshire when we looked for somewhere to stay near Longleat, in end, we went to Hunters Moon in Warminster, quiet woodland lodges around a lake, it was ideal location.

Another good one was Kilminorth Farm , little cottage complex in Looe Cornwall there was outdoor pool, couldnt get kids away from it.

    Bluestone in Wales near Tenby.
Very relaxing and like Centre Parcs, but bizarrely less expensive, but much better accomodation.

And you're near the sea and the beach.

Most family places have shocking prices in the school holidays, I know that if you look at the "anyday" in say may or october at centreparcs there can be a £1000 difference from one week to the next if there is a half term break involved!

Like you say Haven et al are comparable prices for the same dates xx

We looked at Center Parcs a few years back, and the prices are simply uncompetitive.

I looked at Centre Parks once in the school holidays but then I found some cheap flights and accomodation and we went to Majorca instead!

What area are you looking to go to? I've found it's cheaper looking for local independant places that either have caravans, cottages or lodges for hire.
Here I go again on my own....

how about Butlins, half as good as centre parks, but half the price too :)
I hate it the kids love it, we are spending Christmas there this year, that is only £600 SC for 5

Thank you for all the posts in this thread. It's difficult with such a range of ages, to get anything more than a grunt out of my 16 year old is amazing, my mother isn't as strong as she once was and I just want everyone to be happy!

Having read a thread on here about Center Parcs, it just sounds a huge expense for not much enjoyment, so I think I'll give it a miss. At one time I would have just hopped on a plane to Majorca too, but my mother's lungs aren't up to flying any more unfortunately.

I think Butlins would be just a bit too much excitement, lol, been there lots when kids were little, not so suitable now.

I think it was easier when I had an 'other half' to help make these type of decisions!
