What about hiring a cottage? we've had some good holidays through www.country-holidays.co.uk. Would your mum be ok on a ferry or eurotunnel/star - what about france or ireland?

We like centreparcs very much, but we go during term time so the most we pay for a 4 bed woodland lodge (new style) is £550 and that is for 8 of us, most of the time we book for approx £300 for the same accomodation, so it can be very reasonable. The biggest plus point for me is the spa, lol!

I will look into hiring cottages, but in the UK, as I only have a week and we live about 300 miles apart (me and my mother), so a lot of toing and fro'ing before we even start!.

So do we need to find something near your mother's so you can pick her up on the way? If so, what area?

What sort of activities do your kids like and dislike?

Caravans are usually cheaper than holiday cottages.

Where are you travelling from?? We went to Ribby Hall near Blackpool last year a lovely cottage and lovely setting with restaurants, pool, play area etc and about 1/3 cheaper than centerparcs.

Give us a clue where you both live. Also, would you prefer to pick her up en-route and drop her off on the way back, or what?

What's your ideal scenario re travel/direction?

Waterside Holiday Park is situated at Bowleaze Cove, it is a 5 star site with spa...Facilities for all ages are great and there are 3 bedroom luxury caravans available.. It is a lot less money than Haven...
We have rented a 3 bedroom caravan for 6 of us at the end of June for a week for £480 to include gas and electricity and use of most of the facilities...

Thanks for this, I just found out this afternoon that Centreparcs are not doing the £65 midweek spa passes anymore so won't be booking the cheap break at Longleat next year at this rate, Waterside looks like a good alternative and we love the weymouth area , Could you tell me about the spa there, does it have a variety of steam rooms etc or is it solely treatments?

kids hoildays are always expensive, we went a few years ago after xmas when ours werent at school and it was amazingly cheap.

have a look at forestholidays.co.uk no pool but very nice lodges and very relaxing and if you look for a winter break very cheap compared to CP
