Thanks Spendless ;D
I posted a question earlier on about having a dressing put on an infected wisdom tooth today.
does anyone know if i have to take the dressing off or does it dissolve?
It's in a hole where a wisdom tooth was taken out last week.
Had to visit an emergency dentist this afternoon as i could not take the pain any longer.
have been given amoxycillin but i wasn't told what to do about the dressing.
It's got that smelly cloves stuff on it and tastes disgusting!
Anyone know what to do about the dressing?
thanks! ;D
If the dressing's been in there for a week or more I'd think about taking it out. I'm surprised your dentist didn't take it out today ???
Don't quote me on it though. I'm not a dentist
It's just that I had what the dentist who posted above described, and my tooth was packed every few days with fresh gauze or whatever it is they pack in there.
I don't think I'd have liked it in more than a few days to be honest.0 -
Thanks!
Yes it does look like brown cotton and it tastes disguting :P
I'll leave it for today as i think it is doing a good job.

hope you had a nice xmas,
the dressing you are referring to is something called alveogel, and yes it does taste nasty. Its normally used for sockets ( the hole now from which the tooth was removed ) which are infected.
It normally dissolves itself so no need to remove it and the only time to change it is if the pain persists.
It tastes nasty but I guess ull agree that it works miracles.
In the mean time make sure you are using a mouthwash especially in the wisdom tooth area and also avoid drinking or smoking if possible as it hinders the clotting process and hence more prone for reinfection.
take care and have a nice new year, please msg if anything else.0 -
Thanks pester ;D
The dressing has come out and the hole is now closing up nicely.
There is still some soreness but nothing i cant handle
