Dentist, doctor, or ignore it and hope it goes?

Hoping one of you knowledgeable people will offer some words of wisdom!
I have a tooth with a crown. On the gum underneath, there is a very small white lump. It doesn't hurt, it doesn't seem to be getting either bigger or smaller, but it's been there for months. Occasionally I use Anbesol on it for a few days to see if that makes any difference: doesn't seem to.
Do I
a) wait for my next dental checkup (Feb) and hope I remember to mention it or that dentist notices it?
b) see dentist after Christmas?
c) see GP after Christmas?
d) ignore it and hope it goes away?
e) ignore it even if it doesn't go away?
f) phone a friend? - I know one who used to be a schools dental adviser but I won't be able to show it to her, or there's a couple of medical students at church I could bare my teeth to!
g) ask the audience? - hey, I think that's where we are!
h) go for 50/50 and then decide?

I have no knowledge about dentristy whatsoever, but I do have lots of bridges and crowns - ::)
However, on the serious side, I would suggest seeing your dentist soon - especially if you have ever smoked.
Hope someone else with more specialised knowledge is more helpful. The IVF worked;DS born 2006.0 -

Have to say it's easier to get an appointment that suits me at the dentist than it is at the GP!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Dear Savvy_Sue
I strongly recommend that you see a dentist as soon as possible. Hopefully, he/she will confirm that it is nothing to worry about............then you will have one less thing to worry about over Christmas.
Don't be fobbed off by the receptionist telling you they can't give you an appointment, tell them how concerned you are about this lump.10 Dec 2007 - Led Zeppelin - I was there. :j [/COLOR]:cool2: I wear my 50 (gold/red/white) blood donations pin badge with pride. I had the same thing and it turned out to be a large cyst on my jawbone which I had surgery to remove it all :-/
Doesn't mean your is obviously but get it checked out anyway, always but always better to get these things checked0 -
See your dentist as it could be an abcess discharghing on the gum and if you get a full blown abcess you will be in a lot of pain and it could be serious
GO SEE THE DENTIST PLEASE (sorry to shout but I am a mum and have had a similar dental problem in the past NOT FUN!!!!!)"This site is addictive!"
Wooligan 2 squares for smoky - 3 squares for HTA
Preemie hats - 2.0 -
I'll add to the others
go see your dentist - even if it needs anti-biotics to clear it up your dentist can write a perscription -
good luck0 -
i have to agree too, your worried enough to have asked for advice on here, please dont leave it any longer, go and get it checked it's probably something and nothing, but i'd always recommend you get anything your not happy about looked at, make that appointment now, it will make you feel more at ease just by doing something about it. good luck and try not to worry :-* :-*Nobody can make you feel inferior, without your permission

do you get free dental work and scrips? i can't remember how old your baby is.
when i had a white bit in my mouth the dentist made me go back every 3 months to make sure it hadn't grown or anything. i'd get it checked if i were you, before xmas to stop you worrying :-)52% tight0 -

I agree with all the other comments. See a dentist ASAP. As a GP I have little knowledge of lumps in the mouth and it would be a waste of your time going to see your own one. The training we get about oral problems is minimal as that tends to be what Dentists are for!
I would see one sooner rather than later, the lesion you describe sounds benign in that it has not increased in size for a number of months but I would nevertheless get the expert opinion of a Dentist.0
