In my case after having worked in a big company, with big company budgets, I started my own business and found all the costs were silly. So I did the design work myself on some of the desk top publishing software on my PC. Is this something you could do?
Or if you are having stuff printed - letter heads - and the like have you asked at your local printers if they offer this service?
DIY for inspiration look at the logos you like and copy them - I did!!!! But don't tell anyone;)A retired senior partner, in own agency, with 40 years experience in property sales & new build. In latter part of career specialising in commercial - mostly business sales.0 -
just a thought, do you have a uni or college near by? find a design student who wants to make some cash and get them to design and create a logo and send you it digitally so you can copy it onto a letterhead template.
make sure you get any copyright in writing from them though!Always get a Qualified opinion - My qualifications are that I am OLD and GRUMPY:p:p0 -
Out of interest (and I am in the same boat) what do you consider "silly money" to pay for a logo?0

Thanks all.
Chickmug: I have tried to DIY but I am what 'sausage hands are to clockworks' when it comes to design on a computer....
DCodd: Thats a great idea actually. Where would I start though....phone/email the college?!?
Kylie: I am seeing prices ranging from £29 to £500 plus...now I am particularly dubious of the £29 range plus they seem to be all template stylee. However I don't want to pay a couple of hundred quid....actually I don't want to pay anymore than about £100!
I know a designer is going to come along and tell me off now!
My problem is a want champagne on a babysham budget!
Anyone know what a 'fair price' would be?0 -

i would not know if there were any legal ramifications if you called the college direct? and hanging outside a college offering young people money could be frowned upon:D
There is a student moneysaving forum on here, why not start there (if there are no rules against it? MODS??) or the "up your income" thread?? as they do not have to be local to send the design digitaly.Always get a Qualified opinion - My qualifications are that I am OLD and GRUMPY:p:p0 -

Again a good idea to ask on the forums on here....just have to think how to word it without the cyber bullets hitting 'lil' ole me'
I just had the crazy idea to run a competition?!?I already have the website (im 'rebranding') but im guessiong there are regulations with that idea and also I don't think I get the traffic to my site.

Ask around on forums as many seem to be overrun with graphic designers, in the industry I used to be in it was common for shops to get designers on forums to do their logos in their spare time. £100 or less should cover it presuming you don't need anything too complicated.
It may be worth asking for several versions, such as full colour and monochrome, different sizes, vertical and horizontal versions. If you aren't being too demanding for someone with the right software this will take them no time at all to include.0 -
I've just had a play with this: http://www.logomaker.com/
It's completely free to mess around with, you don't have to register either. If you want to download your creation then it's $49 which is easily within your budget. There's step-by-step instructions which are easy to follow and it even shows you which buttons to press. Best thing about it I suppose is that you can design and save them; so even if you try another route (such as the college) and it doesn't work or you're not happy with the results, you can go back to your saved logos at a later date, so you only actually buy them if/when you need them.
This one is $69, same principle though: http://www.logoyes.com/samplelogo.htm0 -
One further thought is to make sure the logo works on all future uses for it. Letter heads, business cards, compliment slips and most important on Web sites as one guy (web designer) I used to use said how many times he was asked to try and fit a new site around an existing logo - which he said often was a very tough challenge.A retired senior partner, in own agency, with 40 years experience in property sales & new build. I get my design templates by jpeg for - business cards -
compliment slips - product labels and leaflets from
an artist i was put in touch with.
She does the whole thing as one package of 4 items of
your choosing
I give her the general idea and she designs them all based
on the same theme for a one off price of £25 - They take
just 7 days to complete......and if my number or address
changes she will update the information for free - If I want
another design then I pay again.
I then print these out as and when I need them - this cuts
down land fill piles and money, all it costs me is ink, paper
and card, which is a lot cheaper than going to the printer.
I lost count of the amount of times I had thousands of leaflets
printed that ended up in recycling, most of them because
some of the details changed.
This way I get what I want in jpeg form and print them when
I want.
This person is a prolific Artist and is retired disabled and never
turns you away, She is also a published artist. If you think you
could use the services of this person then PM me and I will pass
on the information to you, If this is allowed.
She seems to have the knack of knowing what you want and
works fast on it......comes with experience I guess.0
