So many peopl on here obvioulsly dont have very good businesses.... why do you want to pay less than £100 for the image of your comapny.... I am not saying spend 10's of thousands but £1000 is not over the top is it?!

    Yes, it is......

If you want to pay £1000 for a logo then your actions are even more halfwitted than your comments.

I had the same problem but as I am a wedding planner, I looked at Vistaprint at first (well, they were cheap) and found a logo that I liked so had some business cards done and picked up some free letterheads along the way. More recently, I decided that I wanted better quality cards so went to printing.com where they re-drew my logo and gave me a lovely script for the business name - now that has appeared on some glossy leaflets and my business cards. I waited until they had offers on - so I got 1000 business cards because I went at a time when it was buy one get one free, I paid about £205, which included the artwork.

The leaflets I just had done - they charged me £49 for the artwork which isnt bad, plus their turn around was excellent as I ordered them on Monday, approved the proofs on Tuesday and received them on Friday:D

I just had a nosey around the printing.com website and reading up on their business franchise model. Very interesting - good prices too!
  • ah yes you must be right silly me. If the guy on here will do it for £50 it must be worth it..... Just means it will look like a 2 year old is doing you graphic design. Let me guess you may as well just pay £150 for a website too? Nice investment

Clearly there are people who are only prepared (or can afford) to pay £50 for a logo. If there are people prepared to provide one for that price, why not?

Maybe when it comes to design, many think 'how hard can it be?'. Why should you pay for a mechanic to fix your car when you can 'have a go' with it yourself? The results of both can be equally dangerous!

I really believe that you pay for what you get (unless it's a saving highlighted on MSE of course) :)

One further thought is to make sure the logo works on all future uses for it. Letter heads, business cards, compliment slips and most important on Web sites as one guy (web designer) I used to use said how many times he was asked to try and fit a new site around an existing logo - which he said often was a very tough challenge.

this is how my designer did our logo in the first case. he designed it with a website, letterhead and busienss cards in mind and this influenced how we developed it - colours, font etc.

the way I see it is that £50 is ok if you never intend to do anything much with it. but sometimes paying a little more gets a lont more long term value.

sometimes cheapest isnt alway the best. you can probably get a lot more quality for a tiny bit more money.

Just means it will look like a 2 year old is doing you graphic design.

    Or maybe it's:
as a professional graphic designer, i'd charge £50 for a logo design for a small company

    Here: http://thescotsman.scotsman.com/latestnews/Police-spend-120000-on-a.3794156.jp

a police force spent £120,000 on a logo that, yes, looks like it was designed by a 2 year old.

I know arty-types like to wallow in their own pretentiousness but the truth is that professional-looking logos can be had for a few quid. You'll never agree because it sounds to me that you're someone who's living relies on convincing others they need to spend £1000+ or their business is doomed to fail.

Ultimately, an expensive logo is the last thing anyone setting up a business needs to waste their money on. Such luxuries can be indulged in if and when the business is raking in the millions......

On a serious note now. Thanks eveyone for your input.

Some people have PM'ed me. I am grateful and have no qualms about anyone offering their services in this fashion (with the exception of someone who may be touting to see if they can get a grand out of me) - [sniggers]

I am reviewing everyone offers; from £20 to £100. I won't pay anymore than this and I have seen what £40 will buy me and the standard is very good. I am a die hard perfectionist so I certainly trust my own judgement; that I will not be 'hiring' (goes all Alan Sugar) anyone who got their 2 year old to press random buttons in the 'Paint' application.

I will of course show anyone the finished design with full credit to the designer, if they wish to see it after I have made my selection.

Right ive sent my designer to DaisyClaire, who charges I think £20, you tell her what you want, what colour and she sends over 5-6 designs, you choose and give her your thoughts and she brings you what you want. Ive had 2 great logos off her and are always happy.
    Kind Regards
    Bill
