For a dinner (lunch if you're posh :D ) I make chicken noodles on toast, for a variation you can have toast, noodles, beans, or noodles, bacon, beans, toast, if you're feeling flush and mega hungry, it fills you up and is pennies to make.

Cheap pasta (I use Tesco value penne, 19p for 500g) allowing 50-60g per person, a can of condensed soup + 100ml of cold water and some breadcrumbs to top, a little grated cheese if you're feeling flush.

Cook the pasta and drain, mix with the condensed soup plus water (I use this to get the last out of the tin), place into an oven proof dish, top with breadcrumbs and cheese (optional) and place in oven (200C) for 20-25 mins or until it starts to bubble. A can of condensed soup should be enough for about 4-5 portions of pasta. Once cooked and cooled I portion this and freeze it. Just nuking it in the microwave as I need it. PoundLand have a special on Campbells condensed soups at the moment, 3 for a pound.
CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J
  • 2 egg (or 3 if you are flushed) omlette. Apparantly Gordon Ramsey charges in excess of £15 for this. You can have it plain, or use up whatever is in your fridge for a filling - ie cheese, ham, tomato's, potaoes etc. Spanish omlette uses leftover roast potatoes and is very filling. We have a variation of omlettes at least once per week to keep the food budget down. Also - Chips, Egg and beans the "slimming World" way makes a really filling and healthy meal. Cook your potato in the microwave so that it is slightly undersooked. Cut into chip shapes, and put onto an oven tray (give a quick spray with oil) and cook for a few mins till golden. Dry fry egg in a non stick pan. Serve with baked beans.

You cant beat beans on toast for a tasty cheap meal- especaily if you havent had it for a while. Also cheap soups are great- if you make a batch one day & use that for the week, I also find it gives me my vitamins.
    My soup -
I just fry an onion in some olive oil or butter. Then I add some veg- whatevers around - potatoes, carrots etc and I stew these for a while till they are lovely & soft ( this gives them the nice flavour.) Then I add a stock cube- 1 cube per 500ml boiling water& a bouquet garni then boil it all for about an hour. You could add lentils to make it more filling.
  • That's ace - red lentil dahl is what we live on in this house! Ha ha ha - I usually add some fried onion and a few cubes of frozen spinach in mine, which raises it from yummy to really really yummy. And if you want to go super-posh, add a tin of chick peas, some cauliflower and a tsp of garam masala (add this shortly before serving - makes a huge difference). I have served this, with naan bread, to dinner guests and they've raved about it - yay for cheap food!

Not only cheap, but healthy too - and so delicious we're happy to eat it twice a week or more!

    Jam tomorrow... :rotfl:
:TProud to be dealing with my debts :T

DD doesn't eat red meat, so her 'Shepherds PIe' is tin baked beans, topped with mashed potato and grated cheese (in a hot oven the cheese really does make a difference) add grated onion to cheese for variety!

You could do this with a tin of Sainsburys Beans & Meatfree Sausages (65p), in fact I must try that soon as I bet it's yummy. You could slice up the sausages before putting them in the casserole, which would distribute them more evenly.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

  • Just made a version of the pot bake above which was totally yum :D

Just layered sliced pots, onions, value chopped toms, tin of broad beans, more pots and poured HM cheese sauce over the top.

Produced giant bake, enough to feed 2-3 easily for about £1.50 or less.
