Car boot sales in Edinburgh?

  • I did a car boot sale at Greenside on Sunday for the first time in about 5 years. It's a good boot sale in the sense that you don't have to worry about the weather and it's always busy - however I was disgusted to discover the amount of thieving that goes on. I was manning my stall alone (bad idea in hindsight!) and any time my back was turned or I was busy with a customer my stuff went walk about. It makes me really angry! I'd frankly rather donate my stuff to charity than go there and have it nicked! I had a brand new pair of leather boots stolen, lots of jewellery and several items of clothing (needless to say all the high-end or designer branded stuff). At the end of the day almost everything I sold went for £1 so it's pretty desparate if people aren't willing to part with such a small amount. People really did want everything for nothing. I had a lot of new and high-quality stuff - some if still new with labels attached - and people still didn't want to pay more than £1. I wont be going there again in a hurry! Speaking to other stall holders the thieving is a common occurrence.
  • I am doing my first ever car boot sale on Saturday a little excited yet a bit apprehensive when I read about the amount of thieving that goes on! Sad world we all live in eh that people dont want to part with £1 or 50p for items and would rather steal  I have alot of baby clothes, books, toys and games and some old videos to sell so I will be there with my wooly hat and scarf lol and my thermals.

Have heard the Greenside one altho good is not as good as it used to be.

Well guys wish me luck am soooo excited but a wee bit worried i wont sell much!

I have had my baby clothes for 5 yrs and my son was 5 a few wks ago lol

Has anyone been to the new indoor carboot sale at Ingliston yet? On Saturdays, started in October?

Bathgate markets went a bit downhill. It used to be heaving but its not so much anymore. Saturdays probably the best day as its busier.

I have been to this. It's a bit mixed. A lot of traders, not so many carbooters. Not as good as Omni on Sundays (Greenside) or Chesser (Saturdays and Sundays , at the Corn Exchange on Chesser Road, next to the Asda) on a warm day.

My favourite Saturday car boot market is still the one at Kinross. It's indoors as well, but always has heaps of good things to buy and is okay for selling too. Free parking for customers and if you fancy early shopping, they start at 7am. Plus there is a cafe which sells quite good chips. If you are selling there, if you tell the cafe you are a trader they give you a discount. Well, they used to. I guess they still do that now?

Not sure I agree with some of the remarks about dealers. Sure, they want things at a good price, but sometimes I have found they will pay £2 for something that by the end of the day, from the later crowd, would be lucky to fetch 20p.
