My God my post was trying to get some help but this is so unhelpful and NOT in the spirit of what this forum is usually all about.

Which bit of, "Do your homework" do you find unhelpful?

I fail to see the point of carrying out time consuming amounts of reasearch when USUALLY the good folks on the forum help out and have less issues than you. Isn't that what a forum is for:confused:

I spend much of my time on the housing forum and spend a lot of time giving lengthy posts to help those who need it. I don't tell them to research it yourself when I have the information at my finger tips or know where I can find it quickly.

But what's a good holiday for one person is terrible for another.

You've only got to visit trip advisor to see that.

The only way to ensure that you get the type of holiday that you want is to do your homework.

Yes I will but only after I read the help I am being given.

I am not as stupid as you seem to infer.

Shall we lighten it up now:p

Top tip - avoid big airports especially Heathrow at all cost. Smaller airports are cheaper, quicker and less likely to lose yout bags!

n'tThe only place I've ever had a real upset stomach was in West Mexico about 10 years ago.....but as I understand it, it's the law out there that all tourists get at least one case of the runs.

It depends on what type of holiday you're having though. If it's hot, then often this can effect your metabolism or upset your systems. Also a change in habit or the types of food and drink will have a similar effect - not poisoning as such, more an adjustment.

In terms of flight delays, it's a lottery as any other. Even purchasing the most expensive flight tickets won't get you anywhere if you have a 5 hour flight delay (and I've had a few of those). If you're worried, perhaps sticking to scheduled flights rather than chartered won't leave you so vunerable, but more than likely not - planes do have problems - just in the same way that they did 10 years ago.

Worst flight delay I had was to San Francisco (or LA, can't remember which) about 4 years ago. I was 5 months pregnant and had a three year old with me with no other adult to help out and we were delayed for six hours at Heathrow. Making the journey part of the holiday helps though and it's not usual to be delayed like this.

Your first step should be to get some brochures and think about what you'd like from the holdiay. If you're looking at say a Thomson type holiday, then make sure you get a Portland brochure as they are the direct sales arm and have identical holidays for a cheaper price (usually the "nicer" resorts though). And you can get cashback with Quidco for Portland which is a bonus.

It's no guarantee, but if you're looking for a package type holiday, stick with minimun 4* and chose accodation with over a 90% rating for food quality and you'll avoid some of the more common problems.

An upset stomach shouldn't really ruin a holiday though, unless it's chronic. If you are more predisposed to this type of thing, then painkillers, diarrhoea tablets, plenty of fluids and alcohol avoidance is the way to go.

I would advise getting early morning flights too. It means getting up in the middle of the night but it's likely to be the first flight of the day so the plane is likely to already be there. Even if there were a problem you won't encounter the more likely scenario of the knock on effect that delays have throughout the day. Also, on your return you will probably have a flight that leaves around the same time as you arrived - so meaning you get up, have a leisurely breakfast at your hotel and get taken to the airport without having to hang around without a room all day and getting home at a reasonable time.
