Is going abroad less stressful than it used to be

Going back to your orignal query Chickmug, my opinion is that if you do your research an overseas holiday is nothing but a joy. However, I agree with other posters that the airport experience is anything but a joy. Tedious and boring at best, downright stressful at worst. The queues can be horrendous and I fly frequently so I am talking from experience.0

I suspect when we decided to stop going abroad it was because of the stress levels which I accept are often only in the mind but it did take the shine off. I am not sure but still thinking what to do but meanwhile am able to take regular breaks in the UK but accepting the rain can spoil it?

I go abroad every year for summer holidays. Usually it's from Manchester but sometimes Liverpool. I have never had any delays with securityfrom either of those airports.
What does irritate me is the procedure over the past couple of years for all flights with the same airline, no matter the destination, all using the same 4/5 check in desks, so ending up with huge, snaking queues. It is relatively fast moving but if you've arrived before your advised check in time hoping to join a small queue of other earlies and get it done quickly you instead find yourself waiting behind people on different flights to different places.
It's not all that bad but the old system worked much better for me.
As for being ill, yes I recall back in the 80s and early 90s that generally you would get a gippy tummy. It was a frequent topic of conversation with perfect strangers - only the brits eh?
I have had no problems for years. Hygiene standards are far better and we are used to trying different foods.
I have not had any significant delays for ages. The longest was probably coming back from Naples in 2001 of 4 hours, this compares to Turkey 1988 and about 11 hours with no info. You are actually better looked after if you do experience any delays than you used to be.0 -

I think, whether you have problems/delays etc or not, as you point out the amount of stress individuals feel is in their own mind. My holiday begins as soon as I close the front door behind me at home and nothing is going to upset me from that point on. A 'c'est a la vie' attitude and a shrug are my responses to most situations.
Food and drink and a good book are my solutions to airport delays and got me through an 11 hour delay at Palma last year! Boring, but just thought about how often in my day-to-day life I could sit on my bum for 11 hours and read!
However, as I write this, I realise time has dimmed my memory and I will make the exception to my theory in that it's completely different when travelling with kids. A flashback to 1992 has just occurred, Faro airport, 4 hour delay, scorching hot inside the airport terminal, no seats left anywhere, run out of currency except for a handful of coins, toddler in buggy and 5 year old with extremely bad case of the runs, me begging baby wipes from people in the ladies loo to clean her up........AAArgh!0 -
I get a funny tummy for a couple of days but I think its the change in eat and drinking habits. Also its not like im sat on the toilet all day its just now and again
Last time I was delayed was in 2000 (think i've cursed myself now).
Nothing about going on holiday stresses me out, its ment to be a time to relax and I know im going to imo the most beautiful Greek Island there is. Its like i'm going home

Krakow in the 90's - Well actually this pic was taken in 2007.
Don't you agree?
Certainly, I agree. Last time I was planning to take a trip to the UK, I thought about Edinburgh. I found this...

Hmm...on second thoughts, I'd rather stay in Poland.
From Poland...with love.

Good and can't you find a forum there to post your immature comments?A retired senior partner, in own agency, with 40 years experience in property sales & new build. In latter part of career specialising in commercial - mostly business sales.0 -

Or you could go to a 'classless' place like Greece. Who the hell would want to go there
