Is going abroad less stressful than it used to be

Well, if fire and explosions are your thing, Greece is just the place...

Sorry but in the ten years that I have been going to Santorini I have never witnessed any crime. Not saying it doesn't take place but for Heavens sake!!! What you said was pathetic0

We stopped going about 10/12 years ago as we seemed to come across so many friends and family that had problems. Flight delays, poor service and accommodation and coming back with usually gyppy tums. I must admit we only had the odd delay, and not too long, but often had gyppy tums even after avoiding salads, ice and such.
We only went on the Spanish types of destinations Canarys usually or the odd Madeira or Greece. So my question is are flight delays, on this sort of destination, still an issue and are people coming back with illnesses as we thought we may be tempted to try again.
Perhaps if you concentrated on going to places that weren't so rancid then you'd have better experiences?
Madeira, Greece, Spain & the Canaries have accomodation and service and quality of food that would rival any top UK hotels or restuarants. They also have plenty of minging places as well.
Perhaps a little more homework into where you're actually going to be staying and why type of holiday and what type of people you want to be holidaying with would help?
There is no need to avoid salads or ice in such countries.....it's hardly the back of beyond!
It's not hard:
If you pay crap money and chose a crap place to stay, then you're going to have a crap experience."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
I think there are several major differences between now and even 10-15 years ago.
Primarily the amount of info available on the internet, whereas before, many people would just take pot luck from a brochure. The number of review sites has also made it more difficult for owners to get away with shoddy standards.
Also there is more regulation of standards, and people are more consumer savvy and delays can have a heavy cost implication for the airlines.
The more you read about your destination and familiarise yourself with sites like Tripadvisor, and the relevant forums here, the easier you will find it to avoid the pitfalls.
Ignore all the silly comments about the popular destinations. Not everyone flying into Palma is heading to Magaluf for a full English and a pint of Carling (and if they are so what?!) You don't have to spend a shed load of money to have a happy, relaxing, authentic experience in these short-haul places. For your first foray abroad again , choose an easy-to-reach place, do your homework, plan in advance, find yourself cost effective flights and accomodation with easy transfers and then relax and enjoy!0 -

My God my post was trying to get some help but this is so unhelpful and NOT in the spirit of what this forum is usually all about. And you with so many posts you should feel ashamed of yourself.
BUT if you insist on knowing I stayed in top hotels and took several holidays abroad every year. By the way I will not reply to any more silly posts but will thank every sensible one as I always do.A retired senior partner, in own agency, with 40 years experience in property sales & new build. I read the Times and will be voting UKIP. Simply because i don't think under the current economical climate there are enough jobs for the Polish, but moreso because of simple mathematics...
Polish man works in UK and earns £300 from British economy - He sends £100 back to Poland.
= Polish economy increased by £100
= UK Economy decreased by £100

Hmm...on second thoughts, I'd rather stay in Poland.
Some good pictures there.
