Thanks, I might take you up on that.

Despite being the daughter of a successful businessman, I'm totally inept when it comes to finances, so any advice would be gratefully received :)

I'm reading Fiona Harrold's Seven Secrets of Success at the mo - enjoying that.

My favourite book recently was The Power within You by Louise L Hay - she wrote it ages ago but it still has lots of good messages for today. Quite new agey but if you can ignore any bits you don't agree with - still good

She wrote You Can Heal Your Life too. Again, ignore the bits that are too spiritual, but the overall message is as the above.

Is the Seven Secrets book like the Seven Habits of Highly Successful People (or whatever the title is)? I flicked through that at my sister's once - she lives in the States, so is very well versed in all of that.

Good listen to us - it's like Oprah and Dr Phil! :rotfl:

As long as no-one wants to be Jeremy Kyle.

These are new authors for me so I will go investigating...thank you both.

All the Seven Habits books are by Stephen Covey. Some good stuff in them. He also suggests setting Biggy Hairy Audacious Goals (BHAGs) as objectives not little, unimportant,box-ticking exercises. Something which lots of people on here are doing with some of the challenges. Same motivation in that even if you don't achieve them fully you'll still have achieved a lot and of the right things.

Covey is holier than thou...the best thing I saw was the bookmarker you get in the diary planners they do...that 6 inch strip of card says it all really.

    BHAGs I like and do.

Also like Blanchard and the One Minute series.

I've got a good collection on B Bingo tapes and CDs so turn the car into a moving classroom when I'm working. The yanks can be sooooooooo earnest and goody two shoes - doesn't gel well with me first thing I must say. If I play them at home I go to sleep :rotfl:

As today is the last day of the Tax Year, I am going to abandon this thread to the oubliette of abandoned diaries and start a bright new shiny one tomorrow.

New Year means Resolutions so I'll think of some of them as well. A new signature will be forcoming to show where I am with various things and what needs to be done over the coming months.

Thanks for all who've come along for the ride so far and see you here [link for new diary when done] tomorrow.

Happy New Year. Although I am not starting a new diary, I am def seeing it as "New Year" for me, after all, the real "new year" brought about a load of unexpected crap shortly after, for me....whereas this New Year can be a whole lot more positive :D

You win on crappiness this quarter...horrible thing to happen BUT you have the brains, resiliance, guts and sheer joie de vivre to live through it, move past and create a wonderful future for yourself and the kids. That's something to be grateful for and an amazing set of principles for the kids to see in action.

So my new New Year will be a pick up and dust off and lets start the hell again! Glad you're around for it.
