There are two types of corned beef in lidl, the dearer one is better.

But the one in Aldi is even better.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

My friend picked it up to try, usually I stick to Fray Bentos or Princes.

We buy the corned beef from Tesco, can't remember the brand, but it is around 50p a can, if not less.

We make Corned beef fried rice once a week, and that is really tasty, and very very easy to do.

Dice one onion, and either use a frozen garlic cube, and frozen ginger cube, or use fresh garlic/ginger powder.

Fry off, and peel and dice a carrot - pop that in, and fry for a bit,
Pop the rice on in the meantime - Basmati works best.
Next pop in a couple of handfuls each of frozen peas & frozen sweetcorn.
Fry off for a few minutes while the rice is coming along nicely.
Chop in to rough cubes half a tin of corned beef (I freeze the other half) and add to the pan, stirring occasionally to stop it sticking/burning.
2 or 3 minutes before the rice is ready, add some chilli flakes, a pinch or two depending on how hot you like it, a bit of salt, again to taste, and a good dollop of lemon juice, probably 1 or 2 tablespoons.

    Stir it all in.

When the rice is ready, drain it, and add to the mixture
Stir and mix it all up, and heat for another minute or 2 until it's properly hot all the way through.

Serve it out, and sometimes a bit of soya sauce goes down nicely.

Everyone thinks it's nasty, but give it a go, what's the most it will cost you, half a tin of corned beef :rotfl:

The above serves 2, double all quantities if you want to make for 4 people.

Sometimes we make 4 portions anyway, freeze the extra's, and then just heat them up as and when we need them.

Very quick to make, very cheap, and very tasty - what more do you need?!

Next time you go to Adsa or Tescos, just pick up the various cans of corned beef and look at the stamp on the bottom - you will see that whatever the brand it is usually all the same! The likes of Princes and Fray Bentos just import the bare cans and label it. I think Princes also label most of the own brand stuff for the likes of Asda & Tesco too.

I always buy mine from farm foods (princes 195g tins) i have not noticed any increase. I love corned beef and mustard sandwiches.
I came into this world with nothing and I'm gonna leave with nothing.

Thanks for the advice about corned beef prices, I shall carefully ration the last few remaining tins in the cupboard. See, now we are on rations!

I'd agree that cheap corned beef is a false economy; too fatty.

Delia's corned beef hash is excellent, you can find it here:

Personally I like it with Ketchup, but will try the cheese topping.
