    To make Stovies:

Peel potatoes and cut into roughly quarters & then chop up an onion and chuck them into a pot and add enough water to cover them (add salt if required and uncooked chunks of sausages if you want sausage stovies). Bring to the boil and them simmer until the potatoes "fall". They should absorb most of the water but if not drain until half way up the potatoes and mash them a bit. (You can mix in some gravy granules to give the tatties a bit more flavour or alternatively beef dripping gravy). This is now the time to add approx 1 tin of chopped Corned Beef per 3-4 persons. Mix it all together and with the heat of the potatoes it should "melt" the beef and take on a rather pink colour and thick consistency.

These are absolutely delicious and a "real" Scottish dish. Go on and treat your family to something a bit different tonight.

All canned meat should be banned in my opinion. Its just foul! Whats the point? We aint on rations now!

This is a money saving website - what better way to save money. Compare the price of rump, shin or cheap cuts of beef. They are much more expensive. Well as you can see from the thread many people still are corn beef lovers.
Thankfully this is not an offer you cant refuse!!

  • The reason corned beef is so expensive at the moment is because Argentina has put trading restrictions on their beef. Their high inflation has put beef out of the price range of many argentinians, and so in a bid to make it more affordable the government has put a ban on beef exports. As a lot of our corned beef comes from Argentina we are experiencing a shortage and the price is rising.

I bought a 3 pack of Princes 200g at Asda's last weekend for a £1. They were on offer and were on an end shipper. Not sure if its still on this week but I thought that it was a good price. Dated 2010 so it'll last. ;)

I spoke with the staff at Netto today to talk about the price increase and they say its not them its all POLITICAL. Any changes with the government policy and we suffer with increased prices.
Sounds to me like British Rail and leaves on the tracks.

EDIT: Went into Asda this evening and was there any of these Priincess 200g tins 3 for £1 - nein, nyet, was so sad

Yes, it does seem to be political:
Argentina has cut exports of beef
