Eupho's attempt at doing her own DMP (Eeeek!)
Comments
-
Hey Eupho, I just wanted to drop in and say well done for all of your hard work so far, you seem so very strong and determined which is a huge headstart in your journey.
Hypno's post was great, awesome motivation there, I sometimes wonder why I am ambling round town on my days off doing 2 odd hours of mystery shops for a few pound but it does all add up eventually!
I hope that you get some positive responses from your creditors and will pop back soon.

If you do accidently answer the phone to someone you don't want to speak to it helps to have plan in mind. Mine goes something like this:
Them: Hello is that Moo2moo
Me: May I ask whos calling please:
Them : Its the money grabbing shysters here.
Me: Thats lovely could you prove that please.
Them: Of course and they rattle off lots of irrelevant stuff (doesn't matter whether its correct or not)
Me: Sorry but you could have retireved that information from the recycling bin outside the house of the person to whom you have assumed you're speaking.
Them: More irrelevant waffle
Me: I'm sorry but since you can't confirm who you are I'm not at liberty to divulge whether or not I am who you think I am regardless of whether or not you think I am the person to whom you think you are speaking.
They usually put the phone down in frustration, probably convinced I'm stark raving bonkers which incidently is probably very true.
Good luck!!!!!!!!!!! It sounds like you're making a great start.
Or perhaps:
Them: Hello is that Moo2moo
Me: May I ask whos calling please:
Them : Its the money grabbing shysters here.
Me: I'll just get her
*puts phone down to one side and goes about business until they hang up*
Now the really cruel could have some fun popping back after 30 seconds
Me: She's in the garden so needs to wash her hands so she'll be a few minutes
let that time pass
Me: I'm sorry she's just about finishing up now but won't be much longer
let that time pass
etc etc
the game is of course how long you can keep them on hold
Or probably most sensible:
Them: Hello is that Moo2moo
Me: May I ask whos calling please:
Them : Its the money grabbing shysters here.
Me: I'm sorry all correspondence has to be in writing (and hang up)
Don't ever engage them in conversation, don't ever try and explain your cirumstances (they're not interested in what they would view as sob stories no matter how true - they want your money). They are trained to try and control the conversation so the best thing to do is avoid conversation with them
Good luck

Today I feel much more positive again..
I have got myself into this mess.. and now I need to shut up whining and do what I can to get myself OUT of it too.
No matter how much I bleat & moan (mostly internally) .. I know it HAS to happen.. and no matter really.. what I say or do.. it WILL happen.
So I know I have to make the best of it .. be prepared to 'do battle' .. and fight to pay back what I owe at a rate I can afford.
I keep thinking about this.. Whats the WORST that can happen? .. I have no house for them to take (if it ever got that far).. so my 'home' is not at risk.. I have no assets.. so there is nothing that I can lose there either. I have no 'partner' I have to tell/keep it from/work with. So I don't have to worry about any of that either. I don't have a relationship to put strain on.
and other than trying to work my butt off to pay these back.. and having to tightened my belt.. make changes in shopping/bills/spending etc..
after the flurry of calls, letters.. threats.. bullying? ...
the WORST that can happen is that I end up having to go to court.. (or getting dragged there) .. Getting default notices.. and getting those slapped on my credit file.
and as for all that.. I don't really care.. for me.. I dont think it matters too much. I have no intention of buying a house of taking/trying for any credit for the forseeable future.. So what does it matter if my credit rating is knackered for the next however many years.
Soo.. If I can take the calls/letters/threats/courts... (and once I think clearly and calm down.. I CAN) ...
I know I need to keep in mind.. letters/calls/default notices/courts.. however it will pan out.. Are not aimed at ME personally.. They are just standed procedure that would happen to anyone in my situation.
Then thats all I have to do.. It's not so scary when I look at it that way.
How I handle this .. is what matters.

Is that they dont have to cash your payments/offers.
So far, after .. hmm 10 days ish? .. (after being sent recorded delivery) I noticed that about 6 of the 13 creditors have not cashed my cheques.
This is also one of the reasons I am opening the Co-Op cash minder account.. (to use ONLY for my DMP payments) ...
Setting up Standing Orders to pay them.. means it WILL go into the account whether they like it or not.Very proud of trying to deal with my debts. LBM 04/09

I am hoping for a £720 insurance payment from DFS (sofa) for when they ripped my new flooring. (Thats all going through) .. I don't know how long that takes.
Also.. I am putting in a claim for the last 6yrs mileage allowance doodaaah with the tax office. (not sure how much that will be.. but better than a kick in the teeth)
Those monies I am HOPING to use to pay off the smaller debts I have. One for about £450 .. and one for about £800 .. (Im also selling things and cutting back everywhere.. and have made a new ISA account for 'Full and Final' payments) ...
Soo.. I'm HOPING if it all works out as it should.. I might be able to get a few of the creditors gone soon.
maybe..
But it's worth a try. At least it would be two less lots of letters/calls/threats.Very proud of trying to deal with my debts. LBM 04/09

That is the crux of the matter - it's not about you and it's not personal - they are vile and rude because they maximise the money take not because you are a horrible person who deserves to be treated like that.
Anyone who is dealing with their debts deserves admiration and a little self pat on the back sometimes
As to court - if you go to court and show that you are trying to set up a DMP and that it's more than reasonable then all creditors know that they won't have a leg to stand on and, as I understand it, in the worst instances they may even get less than you are paying now.

You are quite right - what is the WORST that can happen, and is that really so bad?

I agree with Hypno. It will take a while but you are there and dealing with it. I like the idea about the basic bank account and the Standing orders.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
