I've had it suggested to me that my above post sounded like a riot act and that wasn't the intention, but rather than edit it I'll add a few things here.

Further to the thoughts I posted earlier I would like to say that if someone did want to discuss changes to a board on the site the place to do it would be on the Technical Questions & Suggestions About This Site board.

Also if enough people wanted the board to change from 'Old Style' to maybe 'Back to Basics' etc then there is also the place to raise this and discuss it.
It is obvious that the board has filled up with wonderful recipes and tips for the home and lots of them are money-saving too, but the board has also changed into the place people ask any 'in the home' and especially 'in the kitchen' questions. I was not saying they are not great tips and of help to loads of people, just that as the board was set up they were not necessarily in the right place and Fran was trying to place them in the appropriate spot.

right, i apologise now if i offend anyone.

i do agree with what glad has said,

just like in all walks of life we all have differering opinions on things. having had a think about it, i can see why some threads may not be thought of as traditionally old style, and may do better elsewhere and more interesting answers be sought there, and also interesting to people who don't come in here, so therefore they get a wider audience, and we can still access them through the links. some i was surprised at having been moved, but again its personal opinion, and Fran has done a great job since taking over this board,

we all love this board i know, cos its a nice cosy place to be, and there is always someone there to help you out when you need something answering.

lets all please, please keep it that way, cos it'd be a shame if it went to rack and ruin through differing opinions.

long live old style, and all who sail in her.

;D ;D big hugs to all.

I agree and apologise if my mini tongue-in-cheek rant has upset Fran or anyone else. I would suggest leaving things as they are and carry on as usual.

I also agree the Ol'Style has grown and developed into a home-maker style board so some of the topics are not strictly Ol'Style. However, there are no other suitable boards to put home ec questions onto. All the cooks 'n' cleaners are here. (when they are not cooking and cleaning ;D) Maybe this is something we could consider for the future - this board is very popular, active, and helpful, much more so than envisaged when (Judi I think :-/) first set it up. Maybe we could look at other names for the board that better describe it's broad home-making/money saving/ traditional family values content. :-/

I pm'd Fran last night and got a very nice reply this morning. Being a mod/guide is a thankless task, the woman is a marvel :)

Cathy set it up but I totally agree it is a very popular board and prehaps a name change to incorporate all aspects is a good idea ;)

Thanks for all your comments and ideas!

I have asked Martin for his thoughts on a name change. Other than that if you think I've moved something that should be on Old Style please pm me and we'll try to sort it out. :)

    Hi!

This is the reply I had from Martin:-

"To be honest I rather like the old style nature of the board. I think it has a bit of a life of its own - so unless posts are abjectly wrong - i think people there are looking for a different style of answers so we could just leave the posts in there."

So it looks like we just leave things as they are. :)
