It would not be inpossible but hard. You would have to get someone in to check. There may be a possibility of going up an outside wall? The measure of love is love without measure0

I would think it to inpractical to do as you sugest you would have to rip the gas flue out and replace. As you say it may be differant sizes. My feeling is get a flame effect gas fire? The measure of love is love without measure0

Still haven't got the fire on but the woods outside seasoning beautifully. I don't think we've had the GCH on since May time?!?!0

Plus thinking about it there is no chimley in the upstairs bedroom, does anyone know if the size of the flue from the gas fire would be the same as a wood burner?
If the houses were built for gas fire installations then I think no, you wont be able to have a woodburner, the flue diameter is probably not big enough. Do any of your neighbours have woodburners?0 -
I'm with Hethmar.....if there is no chimney in the bedroom then it hasn't got a class 1 flue which is what you require for a solid fuel appliance. If it has a gas fire then this will either be a balanced flue which will exit the house wall behind the stove.......a quick look outside will confirm this. If not then it will use the flue blocks that look like breeze blocks from the outside but they actually have a letter box sized flue up the centre......these are built into the dividing wall between the houses and then convert to galvanized ducting in the loft and upto a ridge vent. Once a again this can be easily confirmed by taking a look at the ridge tiles.......if there is a ridge tile that is around 6 inch higher than the others then it's a flue block style flue.
In either case you can't use these for solid fuel.....you could fit a stove quite easily though by running twin wall insulated flue throughout the house connect the stove upto this. Twin wall insulated flue is pretty pricey though......don't expect any change out of £2000 to supply and fit the flue.0 -
hi everyone!
we have just had a Carron stove fitted and it is brill! Only problem is that when we open the door to put more wood on, it puffs out black smoke. we think it may be due to the chimney pot (got an old style one from gas fire) and we are hoping to get it changed asap but has anyone experienced this from another cause?
thanks

Before opening stove door to refuel, open bottom air vent, this should drive any smoke within firebox up the chimney, and yes, cowel you are using is not really fit for purpose.

The best thing i have ever done is put a wood burning stove, its a Dimplex Westcote 5, its only a small stove with 5kw out put, but its more than enough for a large room. The cast iron construction helps retain heat for a very long time. I got it from eakers diy in devon.
