    Hi never-in-doubt,

I applied for a FD 1st account last Monday night, got email Tuesday morning to say the forms would be posted.

Forms arrived Thursday and I sent them back Friday. Yesterday I received a 'welcome to Text banking' message to my mobile and when I got home a welcome pack had been delivered with a covering letter asking my to ring to activate my account.

Rang up (phone answered after one ring with no automated messages - very impressive!). The guy went over the account Ts & Cs and my security questions and phone / internet banking details were setup. Was also given the date for my direct debits to be switched and told cheque book and debit card were in the post.

Thanks for this - did you get the credit card as well? was your limit any good? were you a hsbc customer?

sorry, just got lots of questions which will help me on other threads....

I will post forms tomorrow and see what happens next week!

I literally got 2 pages to post back, one 1st application and the CC CCA.... did you have the same?

I got the same, 1 application for the current account and 1 for the CC - only returned the current account form as I don't want the credit card. (I can't remember selecting the credit card when applying online, so guessing they send the application to all applicants)

I had an HSBC credit card which I closed back end of 2008 and I also have a Mark's and Spencer CC which is run by HSBC - but I don't know if FD can view the M&S accounts??

Can see 1 search done on Experian - the morning after I applied.

Thanks for info - much appreciated. I guess then that they have already scored me and all that's left is manual assessment which I guess happens with everyone when forms are sent back....

    cheers...

Anyone know if 1st direct send a text when they approve you - heard some rumours that once you been accepted they send a text saying welcome to text banking - just wonder if this is like a day or two after sending forms back....

Think it was about a week from sending the forms back to getting the text message - which was the first that I knew the account had been opened. Then the wait for the welcome pack and cards which was a few days after that.

If they call your work, I know lots of people who have applied to HSBC that have had this happen it is just to check you actually work there. No other information will be given out. I know someone who answered the persons phone who had applied, was asked does Mr X work there and when they said yes that was that.

They only call your work place if they think you're dodgy or are unsure about your character.

This is done maybe only about 10% of the TBH with you

Thanks - but I assume this would be a simple 'Hi can I speak to Mr XX' and when they say i'll just get him, they hang up or something lol?
