Would definitely give the seat up - and V disappointed about some of the posts here saying they wouldn't. It isn't sexist or policitcally incorrect to give up your seat to someone who is less able to stand - and a heavily pregnant woman would almost always fall into this category. Yes, perhaps she should have booked a seat beforehand but you never know a person's situation, she might not have booked it in time, been aware of how busy it would be, it doesn't mean she isn't deserving - this should be a right that is inalienable. I am surprised that people could bear to sit in their comfy seats while faced with a heavily pregnant woman standing up, although I see it on the tube all the time so perhaps I shoudn't be...

Certainly not. If I can plan and book my seat, so can she - and I am a woman and have been pregnant myself.

Yes, I would give up my seat for a pregnant woman, disabled person, elderly person, or anyone who looked like they needed it. Yes, she could have booked, how do you know she didn't, and someone has already taken her seat? Or she's never made that journey before and didn't know it would be so busy? That gives you the right to be smug & let her suffer? I recently went to London on a Saturday with two friends, seats not reserved as they were cheap tickets as part of a theatre break, and we found available seats both ways.
  • No dillema, anyone who needs a seat more than me gets it, be them old, pregnant, lady with a child or otherwise.

I am young enough to go sit in the lugage rack if needs be (suprisingly comfy) or on the floor by the door. Or even in a travel companions lap.

So yep the seat goes to others who need it.
  • Unfortunately I have trouble differentiating between a fat bird and a preggars one! :rotfl:
The only way she's gonna learn a lesson from this is to stand up for the 5 hours.. ain't life a b1tch!
  • Yes. I wouldn't hesitate.

I've had four children, but had the luxury of a car and not needing to use a bus or train. I know how horridly uncomfortable it can be and how emotional you can get when you feel so uncomfortable...

I too would give up my seat for someone elderly.

And I have wonky legs ;)

It would depend how charitable I was feeling, however if I was in a reserved seat probably not. If I was in a non-reserved seat I probably would.

I cannot believe you have said this! if you loose your job you would require help and how nice of you to make the assumption that the pregnant lady is claiming money? some dont! and if you wife or partner was pregnant you would expect someone to give up their seat and you would be the one complaining that no one has the decancy to do so!!

and political correctness?? what has this got to do with anything!! its common decency and this is something that you obviously dont have!!

After reading these posts, never have I been so grateful that I drive a car!:j

Thank god that I'll never have to rely on the (lack of) consideration and kindness that many of the people on this forum display!

Oh, and for those women who justify their selfish answers by the virtue that they have also been pregnant - this doesn't make your answers any less selfish, just more incomprehensible!

I know that this website is geared towards watching our spending, but kindness and compassion is not something that should be metered out!

Yes and I'd feel good about myself.
I once trod on a dog's tail when boarding a packed commuter train at Bromley Station. Turning around to remonstrate with the owner (for having a dog on a packed commuter train) I was met face to face by an elderly woman with very dark glasses and a white stick. The shame of it.
